💛 It’s hard to imagine serving your country, only to return home without the support and dignity you deserve.

Unfortunately, that’s the reality for too many veterans. And it’s exactly what inspired Jeanne Loveland Freiberger and Shirley Lyons to take action.

For more than a decade, Jeanne and Shirley have quietly assembled care bags for homeless veterans, filled with essentials like gloves, hats, and toiletries, often the only holiday gift many receive all year.

This year, with help from the Kindness Grant, they’ll be adding something new: solar-powered lanterns, power banks, puffer jackets for the women, and puffer vests for the men to help veterans stay safe, warm, and connected on the streets.
Each bag is more than a collection of supplies… it’s a reminder that someone cares. That their service, and their humanity, are seen.

We’re honored to support Jeanne and Shirley’s mission, and the ripple of kindness they’ve sparked for 11 years and counting.

Every young adult deserves to start out with support, not struggle. 🏠

In Portland, a group of SE Portland friends are helping make that possible. Partnering with and , they assembled launch boxes for youth aging out of foster care. Each box was filled with home essentials, small comforts, and handwritten notes from the community.

These small acts of care may seem simple, but their impact lasts far beyond moving day, reminding young adults that their community believes in them as they take their next steps.

Backed by a $1,000 Kindness Grant, this project offers both practical help and a powerful message: you’re seen, you’re cared for, and you belong.

Because everyone deserves a little kindness as they find their way forward.

What happens when a young student decides “someone should do something”… and becomes that someone? 👟

Meet Mylan, the inspiring student behind Mylan’s Shoe Closet, our newest Kindness Grant recipient!

Through Ignite Your Impact, a youth service program with Affordable Housing for the Carolinas, Mylan turned a simple idea into a community movement: providing brand new shoes for students who need them.

It started when he noticed classmates coming to school in shoes that didn’t fit or were worn through. Instead of looking away, he asked how he could help. With support from the Kindness Grant, Mylan and his peers used the funding to purchase new shoes for the closet, including a back-to-school shopping day where students could choose the pairs that made them feel confident and cared for.

Because kindness grows powerfully in the hands of young people, and one pair of shoes can carry a lot of hope. đź’›

💰 Money conversations shouldn’t make us feel small… yet for too many women, they do.

That’s why Sherline Pierre, founder of S.P. Multi Services in Anderson, South Carolina, is using her Kindness Grant to change that story.

Her Financial Empowerment & Care Event will bring underserved women and families together for a day of learning, mindfulness, and support. The event combines practical financial tools with care kits and encouragement to help attendees feel capable and seen.

As a Haitian immigrant who once faced these same barriers, Sherline knows that when people feel supported, shame turns into strength, and strength spreads.

This is what it looks like to build thriving communities: one shame-free conversation, one empowered woman, one ripple of kindness at a time. đź’›

🎨 Arts, but make the community your canvas.

That’s exactly what Tarnika Love-Anderson and the Youth Excel in ARTS Foundation are doing in Memphis, Tennessee.

Their newest initiative, “Art of Kindness,” is turning creative expression into community action. Through murals, performances, and care packages filled with handwritten art, middle and high school students are learning to use their talents to uplift others.

These teens aren’t just making art, they’re leading it! Each project is designed and executed by youth, showing that leadership can look like a paintbrush, a song, a dance, spoken words or a simple act of care.

With support from the Kindness Grant, Tarnika and her team will host workshops on leadership, empathy, and collaboration, helping students see that kindness is something you create.

For Tarnika, this work is deeply personal. Inspired by her grandmother’s community service and her late father’s legacy, she’s built a movement that uses creativity as a catalyst for healing, belonging, and hope.

We’re honored to support this beautiful vision, where the arts meet purpose, and every stroke helps build a more connected Memphis. 💛

Memories may fade, but the impact of kindness never does… 💛

We’re honored to introduce our newest Kindness Grant recipient: Reba Danastorg of VisionNOW, a program of The LifeGate Center, whose project is bringing connection, comfort, and compassion to local dementia patients, one visit at a time.

With support from the Kindness Grant, Reba will train a team of youth volunteers in dementia sensitivity and communication skills. Together, they’ll visit care centers this fall to share stories, create memory books, and offer music and companionship to those who need it most.

Each visit is a simple act of kindness, but the impact runs deep.
✨For patients, it brings laughter, comfort, and a sense of belonging.
🌿For youth, it builds empathy, understanding, and leadership.

And for the community, it’s a reminder that love and care can bridge any distance, including generations.

This project shows how kindness can meet people exactly where they are and remind them they’re not alone.

Join us in celebrating Reba and these young changemakers as they spread light, music, and compassion through every visit. đź’›

When veterans come together to share a meal, it’s more than dinner… It’s belonging, healing, and hope. 🇺🇸

That’s the mission behind Morgan’s Place, our newest Kindness Grant recipient in rural Michigan. From May through October, this small nonprofit hosts free community dinners on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 PM, welcoming veterans, active military, and their families. It’s a place to connect, share stories, and find support through friendship and conversation.

Across the U.S., twenty-three veterans a day lose their lives to su***de, a heartbreaking reminder of how isolation and disconnection can take their toll. The team at Morgan’s Place is determined to change that in their own community, creating a welcoming space where veterans can gather, learn about mental health and wellness, and rediscover connection through shared experiences.

For co-founder Carey Monroe, this mission is deeply personal. After losing a former student to su***de and witnessing her father-in-law’s decades-long struggle with PTSD, she saw firsthand how powerful a simple sense of community can be.

With support from the Kindness Grant, Carey and her team are bringing people together around the table, reminding us all that kindness and connection can be lifelines.

Join us in celebrating Morgan’s Place and the ripple of hope they’re creating for those who’ve served. 💛

Ever tried teaching your grandma how to silence notifications? Shane has… And he decided to turn this “teaching moment” into a movement!

Meet our newest Kindness Grant recipient: Shane Ferguson, the founder of Free Tech Help for Seniors.

At just 17, Shane is volunteering his time at senior centers in Los Angeles, creating interactive workshops that make technology less stressful and a lot more empowering. From making text bigger, to setting up Medical ID info, to tackling those pesky notifications, his step-by-step approach is helping older adults feel more confident, connected, and supported.

But the real magic isn’t just the tech fixes… It’s the look on someone’s face when they realize, “I can do this”! It’s dignity, independence, and connection all rolled into one. And it doesn’t stop at the presentations. Shane sits down one-on-one, patiently helping seniors with their personal questions. Those moments of kindness create bonds across generations, where both teacher and learner walk away uplifted.

And the ripple effect? Huge. Seniors often leave saying, “I can’t wait to show this to my friends!” That’s kindness in action as knowledge keeps spreading.

With this $1,000 grant, Shane will purchase a brighter projector so his presentations are even clearer in big, sunny rooms. Because when seniors feel confident using their phones, they’re not just fixing settings. They’re staying connected to family, accessing care, and feeling less alone.

đź’› For kids in foster care, something as small as a comb or conditioner can make the difference between feeling invisible and feeling seen.

That’s why VaNonda Harmon-Fielder created ActNUALEJ Inc., who we’re thrilled to announce as our newest Kindness Grant recipient! 🎉

ActNUALEJ stands for “We *ACT*ively Notice you. We *U*nderstand you. We *A*dore you. We *L*ove you. We *E*mpower you. We *J*ustify you.” And they do just that!

Through customized hair care kits - shampoos, conditioners, oils, combs, bonnets, and accessories - plus free workshops to teach kids how to care for their own hair, she’s helping youth build dignity, confidence, and self-esteem.

As a foster mom and licensed hairstylist, VaNonda has seen firsthand how neglecting hair care can crush a child’s confidence, and how the right tools can help them hold their head high, feel less isolated, and even prevent bullying!

With this $1,000 grant, she’s turning her personal mission into a community-wide act of kindness, one hair care kit at a time.

Drop a 💇🏾 in the comments to celebrate VaNonda and show your belief that every child deserves to feel proud and confident.

🌍 Starting over is never easy, especially for children arriving as refugees. But one act of kindness can turn fear into belonging.

That is the heart behind our newest Kindness Grant recipient: Giselle Learning Academy in Clarkston, Georgia. With this grant, the Academy created “Welcome Kindness Kits” for refugee children. Each kit included free uniforms, budgeting kits for parents, books and crayons, hygiene kits, non-perishable snacks, toys, and arts and crafts supplies. Simple but powerful reminders that every child is seen, supported, and belongs.

In Clarkston, often called one of the most diverse cities in America, this initiative sends a powerful message. Every child, no matter where they come from, deserves to feel safe and welcomed on their first day of school.r

Since then, the Academy has continued building connection through events like their Grandparents’ Day Breakfast, showing that kindness is a value lived every day.

Join us in celebrating Giselle Learning Academy and their commitment to turning welcome into belonging. đź’›

Kindness isn’t passive. It’s powerful. And in Portsmouth, Virginia, girls are proving it. 💪

Through Sisters in Service (SIS) and their Girls Leading Forward program, young women are stepping into leadership not just in their schools but in their communities. With help from the Kindness Grant, they’re launching the Youth Voice & Civic Kindness Collaborative, a student-led committee where girls sit side by side with teachers, principals, and local leaders to co-create kinder, healthier schools.

Why we love this project:
đź’› It amplifies youth voices that too often go unheard.
đź’› It frames kindness as civic engagement instead of a classroom ideal.
đź’› It builds leadership skills rooted in empathy, accountability, and healing.

From roundtable discussions to kindness campaigns to an Advocacy Day at the Virginia State Capitol, these girls are showing that kindness is not just something you practice… it is something you lead with!

We’re honored to support this initiative and can’t wait to see the ripple effects it creates.

In the wake of loss, Hisako Film Lab became a place where young voices could rise, through storytelling, connection, and creative healing.

This summer, students from across Maui came together to write, direct, and premiere short films about the issues that mattered most to them… from identity and confidence, to friendship and teamwork, to pure comic relief. (Because sometimes we all need a laugh!)

Then, earlier this month, their stories lit up the big screen at the Hisako Film Lab Summer Premiere.

Thanks to the vision of co-directors Joy Cretton and Brad Kester, and the support of their community, the students walked a red carpet, took photos, and heard their work celebrated with applause. One returning student even composed original music for his film, and his band kicked off the premiere as the opening act!

And while local hair and makeup artists generously volunteered their time to get the students red carpet ready, the Kindness Grant funds supported other meaningful touches like photography, red carpet needs, flowers, posters, and décor to make the event truly special. The students felt like stars! 🌟

Because when young people are trusted with the tools to tell their own stories - and the community shows up to celebrate them - it’s more than just a film screening. It’s a return to joy and purpose. It’s a moment where confidence blooms and creative voices take flight.

We’re honored to support Hisako Film Lab as a Kindness Grant recipient, for amplifying youth voices and creating space for healing through art.

Drop a 🎬 in the comments to celebrate these incredible student storytellers, and head to to see even more behind the scenes.
