It is not good news that basic housing issues are still unresolved years after the earthquake. This is why we can not just throw money at an issue. It is critical that it be spent well; it is even more important that the Haitians determine what "spent well" means for themselves. I'm encouraged to see this outburst of activism.

PORT-AU-PRINCE, Haiti (defend.ht) - A dozen organizations have announced a march to parliament to protest the issue of housing and land in Haiti that has not been resolved in 2 years since the earthquake of January 2010.

Without educated domestic leadership, Haiti's future looks bleak. The money raised at Laughs for Love's music festival of spring 2012 will be directed towards the UC Haiti Initiative, which seeks to rebuild the Université d'Etat d'Haïti (their public secondary education system). By pairing UC faculty with that of the UH, corruption like that highlighted in the video will be stopped.

One out of every two Haitians is illiterate. Haiti's President, Michel Martelly, has made free public education one of his top priorities. VOA's Carolyn Presutti explores why some Haitian public schools are still charging students.

Over eighteen months have passed since the earthquake struck Haiti. Though billions of dollars have been collected in Haiti's name, greed and bureaucracy have rendered the individuals and organizations trusted with rebuilding Haiti almost useless.
