Ravenswood Classroom Partners

We select passionate and dedicated volunteers who, on average, consistently support the same teacher for four school years.

Ravenswood Classroom Partners' trained volunteers tutor elementary school students in East Palo Alto and east Menlo Park to help them improve their academic performance. Ravenswood Classroom Partners supports young elementary school students by placing tutors in their classrooms every week, all school year, at no cost to the school district. During the 2020-21 pandemic school year, we offered our

tutoring programs online, supporting students while they were in distance learning. We are back in person for the 2021-22 school year.

Our volunteer Leadership Team is unique! They take on so many jobs in coordination with our Executive Director and Program Director: volunteer support, marketing, communications, events and so much more. Our Board ensures smooth functioning of administrative needs so our staff can focus on implementing great programs in partnership with the school district.

This week we celebrated our volunteers as well as the Ravenswood teachers and staff at an appreciation event. Thank you everyone for an amazing year working together as a big team to boost the academic skills and confidence of the Ravenswood students! You all made a real difference!

Gains in reading scores are real - this story aired today on NPR’s Morning Edition which talks about the gains in reading scores for students in states that adopted comprehensive “science of reading” reforms. RCP tutors are trained to support emerging readers using these approaches and we’ve been seeing real gains too!

RCP is incredibly thankful to be one of the community organizations receiving a grant from the Rotary Club of Menlo Park. This support enables us to continue our work to make positive change in the educational outcomes of students in the Ravenswood school district. We are proud to partner with Rotary of Menlo Park to make our community a better place!

Teachers see the positive impact our volunteers make with their students! They tell us in surveys about the students’ increased reading levels, passing sight word assessments more quickly, getting much needed individualized attention and improved academic confidence.
