Roots of Change allies are urged to act now and ask Governor Newsom to approve the Legislature’s proposal to continue funding for the California Nutrition Incentive Program (CNIP) and save Market Match.

The good news: the California Senate and Assembly’s joint budget proposal includes $15 million for CNIP in the FY 2026–27 state budget. Now we need to make sure this funding remains in the final budget agreement negotiated between the Legislature and Governor Newsom.

CNIP provides critical funding for Market Match, a program founded by ROC in 2009 to which doubles the purchasing power of CalFresh shoppers at California farmers markets and farm-direct sites, helping families buy fresh, healthy food while supporting California farmers.

Please follow the link below to take action today and help save Market Match. Thank you!

Hello,
Above is a link to an article referring to a major program linking small farms and food hubs like the local MendoLake Foodhub. The Farms Together Program was a major funding source that facilitated Golden Rule Gardens, Black Dog Farm, and other small producers to sell fresh quality produce to food banks for food insecure people. California legislators got funding to the desk of the Governor, now we all could use your support.

Reach out via comment or by phone: https://www.gov.ca.gov/contact/

Tell the governor how important the Farms Together Program is to local food systems and food insecure folks. Hopefully California can continue what the federal government cast aside as "wasteful" spending for our local communities, so they could spend that money on... fill in the blank, but it ain't us.

Thanks for your attention to this matter.

Be well,

Donald Pivec
