Yes. When we answer your call, you can give as much or as little information as you feel comfortable talking about. We may ask for more details on your situation in order to assess your needs and refer you to the appropriate community service. If we agree to do a follow-up phone call with you, we may ask for your first name and phone number, but any information you give is voluntary.

-Is my phone call free?
Yes! If you call 2-1-1 or 1-800-924-5514, your call will be free.

-What problems can you help me with?
We can help you assess your needs and identify appropriate community-based resources that offer help with food, counseling, employment, health care services, support groups, after-school programs, housing, shelter, legal aid, clothing and more.

Specialists also educate you about the service you are being referred to so you are empowered to navigate systems and advocate for services on your own behalf.

-Can I call from my cell phone? Can I call from my landline?
Yes, you can call from both a cell phone and landline.

-I don’t speak English…
Translation services are available by dialing 2-1-1.

-I’m hearing impaired…
TTY is available by dialing 7-1-1.

-Who does United Way 2-1-1 serve?
2-1-1 provides comprehensive information service that is designed to assist all segments of the general population. United Way 2-1-1 serves a ten-county area, which includes Calumet, Fond du Lac, Green Lake, Manitowoc, Marquette, Outagamie, Sheboygan, Waushara, Waupaca and Winnebago Counties.

-What if I don’t feel comfortable calling, do you have other resources?
Yes, you can search our 2-1-1 database online for information about services in the area at: www.211now.org

-What if I’m not in the United Way 2-1-1 Service Area?
If you call 2-1-1 from almost anywhere in the United States, you will be connected to your local 2-1-1 service. You can also contact your local United Way for further information (calls may not be free) or search the 2-1-1 website (www.211.org) for information on 2-1-1 services in your area.

As of February 2013, 2-1-1 serves over 283 million Americans (90.6% of the entire population) covering all 50 states plus Washington DC and Puerto Rico (39 states plus DC and PR have 100% coverage).
