Ducks Unlimited applauds Senator Rob Stafsholt (R-New Richmond) and other supporting members of the Senate Committee on Financial Institutions and Sporting Heritage for advancing legislation to reauthorize the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program. The Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program has existed for over 30 years and has a proven track record of success in conserving Wisconsin’s cherished lands and waters, with over $1.3 billion in historical investments to conserve more than 600,000 acres of habitat and recreational land. In the absence of Senator Stafsholt’s leadership in advancing this critical legislation in a timely manner, the future of the Knowles-Nelson Stewardship Program would have been at risk given the limited days left in the session. The Committee’s action today signifies the Senate’s commitment to saving this program for Wisconsin’s sportsmen, women, and other outdoor recreationists.
