Shelby County A to Z has a new home in the heart of Downtown Memphis. This summer, families can stroll near the Tom Lee Park playground and enjoy an interactive experience that celebrates literacy while highlighting landmarks throughout Shelby County. This project has been an ongoing effort by the Shelby County Nonprofit Committee to support our early readers.

We are thrilled to be a recent grant recipient of the Philanthropic Black Women of Memphis and grateful for their willingness to invest in their community. This grant will help our 901Kids Program expand and engage more students through the creative process. Creating is one of the highest levels of thinking and students become better readers, writers, and speakers when they are given the opportunity to create.

Earlier this month, grant recipients were invited to come together and celebrate this moment. It was inspiring to be in a room filled with civic-minded women with a heart to serve. Congratulations to the other grant recipients!

Thank you again to the Philanthropic Black Women of Memphis for believing in our mission and helping us foster creativity in the next generation of young leaders. đź’™

Hey Families and Early Readers!

We are thrilled to share that Shelby County A to Z will be the first featured story at the Memphis River Parks Partnership’s Storybook Trail in Tom Lee Park, sponsored by Literacy Mid-South.

Join us for the ribbon cutting today - Friday, May 22nd at 4 pm - in Tom Lee Park near the children’s playground. Kifani Press and Kifani Kids Charitable Organization will be distributing copies of Shelby County A to Z. You can also enjoy the Memphis Hope Fest from 2 pm - 8 pm!

Shelby County A to Z is a colorful picture book that highlights the people, places, and things that make our county great. It will also help early readers learn their beginning sounds this summer!

This book was collaboratively developed by the Shelby County Youth and Education Nonprofit Committee and community members like YOU! It takes a village to raise a reader. Thank you for letting us be a part of the village!

Kifani Kids Charitable Organization has been in the creative lab converting storybook pages into storybook trail panels. A storybook trail is an outdoor literacy space that makes reading fun and interactive with each step.

Here's a sneak peek at the colorful panels that will guide little readers through a literacy experience in Tom Lee Park. The trail launches next Friday, May 22nd at 4 pm as a part of Memphis HopeFest. Hope to see you there!
