As part of our project with ’s Hire Local program to help hundreds of people access living-wage pathways in the healthcare sector, we recently arranged clinical skills sessions to give students more hands-on practice prior to their credential examinations, an evidence-based best practice.

Healthcare professionals Holly Barnett and Megan Sparks volunteered their time to lead these sessions at Slingshot’s office, and more than 20 students passed their exams following the training.

We were honored to recognize as an INSPIRE Award recipient at Slingshot’s 3rd Annual MPACT Awards.

The INSPIRE Award celebrates philanthropic individuals and institutions embracing an evidence-based approach to fighting poverty. FedEx has recently developed a community engagement strategy centered on mobilizing Memphis’ workforce potential. This targeted approach is strengthening our city by ensuring local talent has access to living-wage career opportunities.

Thank you to FedEx for supporting MemCOMPLETE and MemACCESS — initiatives designed to transform postsecondary persistence rates in Memphis.

April Britt, Director of Global Citizenship at FedEx, recently joined a panel of business leaders to discuss why this effort is critical for mobilizing Memphis’ workforce.

The event, hosted at the FedEx Experience Center, celebrated the successful first year of a 3-year pilot between Slingshot, tnAchieves, and MDRC to help more local students achieve economic mobility.

Director of Social Impact Projects:
- 10+ years of project-related work experience
- Conduct discrete projects that activate cross-sector stakeholders to implement the knowledge Slingshot has developed to effectively address social challenges connected to poverty.

Philanthropic Strategy Associate:
- 5+ years of account management work experience
- Support the creation of philanthropic strategies alongside high-capacity individuals, foundations, and corporations to achieve intended poverty-fighting outcomes.
