CELEBRATING OUR MOS GROWERS!

One of the best parts of being a member of the Memphis Orchid Society is getting to share in each other’s successes—whether it’s a first bloom, finally figuring out a challenging plant, trying something new, entering a show for the first time, or receiving an AOS award.

Three MOS members received American Orchid Society awards at the August Mid-America Judging Center monthly judging:

Randy Bayer
*Maxillaria caespitifica* ‘Forest’s Rex Silvarum’
AM/AOS — 80 points

Marcus Valentine
*Phalaenopsis equestris* fma. alba ‘Kuo’s Mahvelously White’
CCM/AOS — 81 points

Mark Mills
*Bulbophyllum Tree Frog* ‘Exotica’
AM/AOS — 83 points

*Bulbophyllum Karen Lewis* ‘Exotica Andrea Price’
AM/AOS — 81 points

*Masdevallia microptera* ‘Exotica’
CBR/AOS — Certificate of Botanical Recognition

Congratulations to Randy, Marcus, and Mark on these wonderful achievements!

And to all of our MOS members who keep growing, experimenting, learning, sharing divisions, asking questions, bringing plants to Show & Tell, entering shows, and occasionally wondering why on earth an orchid refuses to bloom—we celebrate you, too.

That feeling when all the patience, watering, repotting, fertilizing, worrying, staring at roots, and whispering “please don’t die” FINALLY pays off.

IYKYK.

What’s blooming in your collection right now? Show us in the comments—we want to see!

What a fabulous July meeting at Memphis Botanic Garden! Packed house for show-and-tell, plant auction, and an outstanding guest speaker and growing: Art Chadwick of Chadwick Orchids (Richmond, VA).

→ "Cattleya Wheel" — mapping species like C. labiata, C. schroederae, C. percivaliana, and C. maxima across the calendar to predict bloom windows
→ A look at award-winning cattleyas from his own breeding program, including C. dowiana 'Kathleen' AM/AOS (tell us you don't want one!!)
→ His new book with Arthur E. Chadwick, "First Ladies and Their Orchids: A Century of Namesake Cattleyas" — now available, and yes, we're all obsessed.

Thank you to everyone who came out, and a huge thanks to Art for making the trip up from Richmond!

Please join the Memphis Orchid Society in celebrating and congratulating Doug M. on receiving his FIRST AOS award! 👏
His beautiful Cattlianthe Ina ‘Dewey Skin’ was awarded an AM/AOS (81 points) at the Atlanta monthly judging in March— an incredible achievement and a well-deserved recognition!
