Scouting America today announced a new five-year partnership with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) aimed at advancing the development of America’s next generation STEM workforce through immersive, hands-on educational experiences. This collaboration will connect young people across the country with real-world learning opportunities centered on space exploration, aeronautics, and STEM: science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.

Through this partnership, NASA will support Scouting America’s national and local programming efforts, helping to create engaging, mission-aligned educational experiences that introduce youth to cutting-edge STEM concepts and future career pathways. Programs will emphasize experiential learning, allowing Scouts to explore topics such as engineering design, robotics, space science, and Earth systems through interactive activities inspired by NASA’s missions.

“Scouting America has always been committed to preparing young people for life by fostering curiosity, leadership, and problem-solving,” said Roger Krone, president and CEO of Scouting America. “Partnering with NASA elevates this mission by providing unparalleled access to the wonders of space exploration and the science behind it. Together, we are inspiring the innovators and explorers of tomorrow.”

As part of the collaboration, Scouting America will integrate NASA-themed content and expertise into its programs, including merit badge curricula, learning modules, and special events. Local councils will have opportunities to engage with NASA centers, scientists, and engineers, bringing authentic STEM experiences directly to communities nationwide.

This isn’t the first time Scouting America and NASA have worked together. The agencies also collaborated to support the Artemis II program by using its missions as a powerful platform for youth education and inspiration. By connecting young people to NASA’s goal of returning humans to the Moon and eventually traveling to Mars, Scouting America is helping inspire a new generation of scientists, engineers, and explorers while reinforcing its broader mission of character development and leadership.

The partnership will roll out in phases over the coming year, with pilot programs launching in select regions and expanding nationwide. Together, Scouting America and NASA aim to ignite curiosity, strengthen STEM competencies, and open doors to future opportunities for millions of young people across the United States.

Safeguarding Youth Training Update (June 4, 1:00 PM ET)
Scouting America has provided additional guidance regarding Safeguarding Youth Training (SYT). Volunteers are encouraged to follow these steps to ensure their training status is updated correctly:
✅ Always Start from My.Scouting
• Log into My.Scouting and use the "Start" or "Retake Course" button
• Do not search for the course manually
• This ensures you are directed to the correct version of the training
✅ Verify Your Training Status First Before Retaking Training:
• Check your training status and expiration date in My Training
• Confirm whether your SYT is already current
✅ Take the Correct Course
• If your SYT is expired beyond the allowed window or has never been completed, take the full 90-minute course
• If you are eligible and current, complete the refresher course
• Taking the wrong course may not update your certification status
✅ Watch for Navigation Prompts
• Scroll within the course window and ensure all content is viewed before proceeding
• Progress buttons may not be immediately visible on all screen sizes
✅ If the Course Freezes or Will Not Advance
• Exit the course and relaunch it from My.Scouting
• If the issue continues, report it through your council so it can be escalated to IT
✅ If You Receive an Expiration Notice
• First verify your status in My.Scouting
• Some expiration notices were sent in error and are currently being addressed
• If your training is current, there may be no action required
Scouting America is actively working with IT and Learning Management System partners to:
• Correct email notification logic to improve accuracy
• Improve course routing between the full SYT and refresher courses
• Address user interface issues affecting course navigation and completion
• Continue monitoring system performance following recent infrastructure updates
Please check My.Scouting for the most current information regarding your training status before retaking any courses.

Here’s some clarity on the Safeguarding Youth Training:
🎓 Old YPT (no 90-minute course completed)?
➡️ Full 90-minute course required
⏰ 90-minute course expired more than 6 days ago?
➡️ Full 90-minute course required
🔄 90-minute course expired 6 days or less OR still active?
➡️ Refresher course assigned
📧 Renewal emails will direct participants to “My Training”, where they can select “Take Course” or “Retake Course”. The system will automatically guide them to the correct training based on their status.
⚠️ Important note - Anyone who has completed only the refresher without ever completing the full 90-minute course will still need to complete the full course. Clearing the browser cache may be necessary to ensure the “Retake Course” button routes correctly.

If you have not taken the new Safeguarding Youth Training and your Youth Protection Training just expired, you will need to log into your my.scouting.org account and enroll in the main Safeguarding Youth Training course from the Home page (look for the image below) when you log in. Do not click "retake course" from the My Training section. That will take you to the refresher course, which will not count if you have not taken the 90 minute starter course. If you have taken the new Safeguarding Youth Training, and it has been more than a week since that has expired, you will have to retake the starter course and not the refresher course. Please share this will all the adults in your unit that this may pertain to. Thank you.

Hi everybody!
Just a quick reminder - If you haven't renewed your Youth Protection Training to the new Safeguarding Youth Training, your training will expire this Sunday (5/31)! If this lapses, so will your membership, so PLEASE check your status and renew ASAP if needed. The longer you wait, the more strain will be on the training platform for access. If you are not sure if this applies to you, and don't know how to check your own status, please reach out to your unit leader or committee chair for help. If they can't help, reach out to one of the Commissioners for assistance.

If you have not taken the Safeguarding Youth Training version before, you will have to take the full course this time around (about 90 minutes). If you were one of the early adopters, and took the SYT course last May when it was released, you can take the shorter refresher course option (about 20-30 minutes with the test). If you have not taken SYT at all before, you cannot just take the refresher - even if you do pass the test. It will not count.
Thank you for all you do for our youth,
Your friendly neighborhood DC
