Center for Excellence at Hutchison In 2004, Hutchison had the vision to open its door to the Greater Memphis community by offering classes through its newly launched arts academy.

The Center for Excellence at Hutchison shares its tradition of educational excellence with the Greater Memphis community through workshops, camps, classes and lectures for all ages. Since that time, more than 20,000 students ages two through adult have participated in the arts academy in workshops, year-long classes, master classes, events, service learning through the arts, and private instructio

n with professional artists and arts organizations on Hutchison’s campus. In 2007, the Mary Miles Loveless Arts Academy was expanded into the Center for Excellence. Through the Center, Hutchison shares its tradition of excellence through offerings in academics, arts, athletics, education, and leadership. Instructors in each of the Center’s academies not only inspire artists, athletes, scholars, and leaders but also engage educators and parents in thought-provoking classes and lectures. Please take a moment to review our current catalog to learn about the programs available this year. There is truly something for everyone! Center for Excellence (CFE) offers one-time events and weeklong skill-building workshops and clinics all year, available individually or in combination with SPARK Day Camp during the summer. SPARK is a day camp for boys and girls available from May 30-August 11, with fun weekly themes that add spark to your child’s summer. Don’t forget to check out the CFE offerings for all ages, including those in the parent section!

Summer at Hutchison is a time for exploring passions, growing knowledge, and fueling curiosity. Learn about zoo animals, create unique art, make your own fairy garden, and more! Our robust summer camp programs can be combined to build a personalized full day of activities for your family. Camp offerings are available from May 30 through August 11 for campers entering junior kindergarten through 12th grade. Our middle school dance company took us down the rabbit hole with a beautiful performance inspired by "Alice in Wonderland" at the Memphis Botanic Garden over the weekend. Having the giant topiary-like sculptures of "Alice's Adventures at the Garden" nearby made it a special afternoon! Our dancers also performed a contemporary piece called "Kings and Queens."

Guided by Hutchison dance and choreography teachers Louisa Koeppel and Katy Stanfield, our middle school dancers focus on modern dance and creative ballet with an emphasis on dance-making and ensemble performance. This performance was a wonderful way for our dancers to share their hard work and creativity and bring life to a unique exhibit at the Garden.

Don’t miss our Creative Ballet Dancers this weekend at the Botanic Gardens!

As Alice's Adventures at the Garden comes to an end, we invite you to travel down the rabbit hole on Saturday, October 22 at 2 pm, to watch students from Hutchison School perform an Alice-in-Wonderland-inspired ballet.

This event is free with Garden admission. We encourage our members to arrive early to receive a refreshment and participate in a special activity prior to the show! We are looking forward to seeing you and everyone who comes out to support our community.

Summer at Hutchison has come to an end, but we had an incredible time with all of our campers! They got to enjoy snow cones today as a sweet treat.

It has been amazing to see campers discover new talents, expand their creativity, grow as athletes, and make lifelong memories with their friends!
