The Evergreen Garden Club was organized in 1980 by neighborhood residents to encourage interest in and increase our knowledge of all phases of home gardening and to help beautify and improve our neighborhood.

Our Evergreen Garden Club Memphis recently visited Spirit Hill Maple Nursery in Millington. They gave us a presentation on the types of Japanese maples that they grow and their various grafting techniques. The nursery is at 9236 Herring Hill Road in Millington.

the Evergreen Garden Club Memphis enjoyed a visit to one of our member's, Becky Beloin's new shop, Boshi Botanicals, in Chickasaw Oaks, then lunch at La Baguette's. Becky demonstrated how they make a fizzing bath soap.

We had our Evergreen Garden Club Christmas Party Friday, December 9th at 10:00 a.m. at the lovely home of Libby Rodriguez-Chapman. Her home was beautifully decorated and everyone brought a yummy dish to share. Thank you Libby!

What a beauty! This breathtaking yard at 280 Avalon, the home of Bret Sanders and Chuck Fraga, is the Evergreen Garden Club's Yard of the Month for May, 2022. After moving to Memphis from Seattle, the two had to learn how to deal with our heat and humidity, but have risen to the challenge effortlessly!

The Evergreen Garden Club's Yard of the Month for October, at 259 N. McLean, is gardened by owner Ben Fant and his fiancee' Erika Owen. Since recently losing a large tree in front, the yard has gone from shade to sun with spectacular results. Don't miss it-- it will brighten your day!t's hear it for another Evergreen beauty!

A panel of judges came to Lichterman Nature Center yesterday to select the winners of this year’s Scarecrow Contests. The judges had some very hard decisions to make! As one judge stated, “Thank you – I thought they were all very well done!”. Here are the judges’ selections:

Voting for Most Popular Scarecrow, sponsored by the Friends of the Pink Palace, continues through October 30. Scarecrows will be on display through November 19.

September Yard of the Month

This spectacular yard, 490 N. McNeil, belongs to Rae Jordan, a nurse who lost her mother to COVID earlier this year. She's planted these gorgeous blooms, her mother's favorites, in her memory. Please be sure to drive by to enjoy their beauty!

For our August 2021 meeting we were happy to have Marisa Mender-Franklin, owner of midtown Bramble & Bloom, as our speaker. She explained how her business works and made a lovely arrangement of some of her flowers. Thanks to Urban Earth Gardens, Nursery and Market for the lovely meeting space!

"Spectacular" is the adjective most often used to describe Cecelia Wingate's climbing hydrangea at 403 Dickinson, earning her May's distinction as the Evergreen Garden Club's Yard of the Month. She received it from a friend 14 years ago, with the advice that it would sleep, then creep, then leap. Don't miss it!
