Governance:
The Steering Committee consists of community members that have a great passion for the arts and/or are practitioners of specific art disciplines: visual arts, scenic arts, music, literature, and dance. We are of all ages, genders, cultural ethnicities, technical and professional skill sets and experiences. Our goal is for the betterment of the Latino and Memphis community through the e

ducation and promotion of our shared Latino Culture. We operate in a collaborative and democratic manner while being led by a chair of the committee. Purpose:
The educational programs that we have designed, articulates a basic human need to become, through culture work, “an active and productive member of the community.” We believe that there is no greater advocacy for our community than to present the positive contributions that our cultural traditions have contributed to humanity that directly dispels stereotypic notions of a cultureless horde. Typically cultural centers are also a natural rallying point where people congregate and share information. We also feel that offering classes to youth and adults in the arts and providing cultural programming would be of great benefit to our community’s sense of well being which directly and positively contributes to their physical and mental health.

Se busca adolescentes para el diseño de títeres para las vacaciones de primavera con Tarish Jeghetto Pipkins
La Biblioteca Cossitt está buscando estudiantes de secundaria con interés en las artes visuales, el teatro o el diseño para ayudarnos a construir títeres a gran escala para nuestro primer desfile de títeres que tendrá lugar en el centro el 18 de marzo. Los talleres comienzan el 13 de marzo de 10 a 3 (se puede dejar temprano y los adolescentes pueden quedarse después si es necesario) Se proporcionará almuerzo y un pequeño estipendio está disponible para honrar su participación en el proyecto. Se espera que los participantes en el taller vengan de lunes a viernes y sean parte del desfile el sábado, 18 de marzo. Si los estudiantes no pueden asistir toda la semana, comuníquese con nosotros acerca de otras oportunidades para participar durante la semana. Acerca del artista: Tarish Pipkins, también conocido como Jeghetto, se ha establecido como un magistral artista autodidacta cuyo trabajo con los títeres está influenciado por un espíritu hip-hop y una cultura de enseñanza y educación.
