❌ Owner surrendered dogs can be put down IMMEDIATELY.

❌ All dogs without a known owner will be held for a mandated 72 hour stray hold. After the hold expires, if the dog is not reclaimed, he/she will be URGENT and at risk of being put down.

❌ After a dog is added to the deadline list, he/she will only have until 6pm that SAME DAY to be fostered or adopted directly through MAS. Dogs deadlined for Monday morning need a commitment by 4pm on Sunday. After that time, and until 9am the next morning, only a rescue can pull the dog to safety.

🔴 PLEASE READ🔴
All dogs are URGENT and at risk for euthanasia after they have been at the shelter for their 72 hour stray hold. Owner Surrenders are at risk for euthanasia immediately. There is no hold for Owner Surrenders. Unfortunately, Memphis Animal Services no longer tells us which dogs are Stray and which ones are Owner Surrenders. So it is best to consider ALL dogs as immediately at risk for Euthanasia. When a dog is added to the Euthanasia list (around 9:00 A.M.), the dog has until 6:00 P.M. that same day to be adopted or fostered and until 9:00 A.M. the next day to be pulled by a rescue. That is 5 hours after being added to the Euthanasia list to be ADOPTED or FOSTERED since MAS does not open until 1:00 P.M. (Tuesday - Friday) If you see a dog you are interested in, I strongly urge you to reach out to Memphis Animal Services immediately. Dogs added to the Euthanasia list on Friday morning have until Sunday at 6:00 P.M. to be ADOPTED or FOSTERED and until 9:00 A.M. on Monday to be pulled by a rescue.

❤️ Meet Ruby ! ❤️

If you’re looking for a puppy who is ready to be your partner in fun, Ruby—aka Rue—is your girl!

Ruby is a high-energy, curious and fun-loving pup who wants to explore, play and soak up all the attention she can get. She’s playful and curious with other dogs and happily shares her food and toys.

And when she’s done adventuring? Bring on the love. 🥰 Ruby is a big fan of rubs, hugs and plenty of attention from her people.

🐾 High-energy adventure buddy
🐾 Curious and playful with other dogs
🐾 Knows “sit” and “come”
🐾 Shares food and toys easily
🐾 Still working on potty training
🐾 Learning the ropes when it comes to leash walking
🐾 LOVES affection!

Ruby would thrive with a family ready to embrace puppy energy and continue helping her learn as she grows. In return, you’ll get one very sweet, very fun little sidekick. ❤️

Another busy week at Memphis Animal Services!

From September 16–23, our Animal Control Officers completed 489 calls, while 265 animals came into our care, including 192 dogs, 71 cats, a peacock and a guinea pig.

During the same week, 94 pets were adopted, 10 dogs were reunited with their owners and 33 dogs were transferred to rescue partners. 💙

Thank you to our staff, volunteers, fosters, adopters and rescue partners who continue helping us create positive outcomes for Memphis pets!
