Our Story
C-3 Land Cooperative is a 501c3 serving Memphis's most impoverished neighborhoods. Our mission is to provide land for the use of low-income Memphians. We will provide permanently affordable housing, economic opportunity, insure access to fresh, healthy food, and offer educational opportunities for Memphians living in poverty.
C-3 Land Cooperative was formed in May 2017 by core members of the Coalition of Concerned Citizens. We saw the need for progressive, innovative solutions to the extreme poverty gripping Memphis. Two models that have consistently found success in other cities are community land trusts and worker-owner cooperatives. These democratic models foster community empowerment and put power in the hands of citizens, rather than government or private institutions.
Our current programming includes a monthly Books & Breakfast Program, the management of two community gardens, and the establishment of communal gardens in the Riverside neighborhood. We are additionally working to create a Food Cooperative and Mobile Grocery. Permanently affordable housing for South Memphians is another long term goal for C-3 Land Cooperative.
