Dr. Lily Afshar, our community advisor, the first female musician with a Ph.D. in classical guitar playing, has passed away, October 24th, 2023 after enduring a period of illness.
In 1989, she got a doctorate from the Florida State University with a thesis on 24 Caprichos de Goya by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco. Dr. earned her master's chair for the University of Memphis in 1989, where she taught guitar to undergraduate and graduate students. She finally returned to her country in 2001 and after 20 years of being away from , she has organized additional and group classes for musicians and guitar students in Iran.

نوروز، نماد جاودانِ نو شدن است
تجدید جوانیِ جهان کهن است
زین‌ ها همه خوب تر که هر نو شدنش
یادآور نام پاک ایرانِ من است

به مناسبت بزرگترین و کهن‌ترین جشن و فارسی‌زبانان و آغاز سال نو ایرانیان، انجمن دانشجویان ایرانی دانشگاه ممفیس (ISAM) گردهمایی تدارک دیده‌ است برای جشن گرفتن این سنت دیرینه و سپری آن در کنار یکدیگر.
در روز 26 مارچ از ساعت 5:30 تا 9:00 شب با برنامه های متنوع به همراه شیرینی و شام در سالن Michael D. Rose Theater دانشگاه ممفیس منتظر حضور گرم شما هستیم و امیدواریم بتونیم لحظات خاطره‌انگیری رو در کنار یکدیگر در این ایونت بسازیم.
