The National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Memphis Chapter, joins the Memphis community and citizens across Shelby County in mourning the passing of State Representative G.A. Hardaway. Representative Hardaway faithfully served the 93rd House District for more than a decade, dedicating his life to public service. Serving others was not only his duty—but his passion—and he transformed that passion into meaningful legislative achievements that positively impacted our community.
Representative Hardaway’s influence extended far beyond his role as a legislator. He was deeply engaged with organizations throughout the Memphis area, including the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Memphis Chapter. His unwavering commitment to ensuring that women and girls were represented and protected was evident in his actions. On numerous occasions, he shared proposed legislation with our organization, inviting our insight and encouraging us to lend our voices through testimony on critical issues such as domestic violence, officer-involved shootings, and other matters affecting our community.
His leadership and service were also reflected through his involvement with respected organizations such as the NAACP, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the 100 Black Men of Memphis, and others. Additionally, his role in the founding of the Memphis Academy of Health Sciences and his continued support of programs and initiatives sponsored by our organization are lasting testaments to his dedication and broad community impact.
Representative G.A. Hardaway’s legacy is one of service, leadership, and advocacy. His contributions to Memphis, Shelby County, and the State of Tennessee have left an indelible mark. His absence will be deeply felt—not only as a legislator, but as a steadfast voice for the people he served.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, he was a trusted partner and a true friend to our organization. His support of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women, Inc., Memphis Chapter’s mission, vision, and programs will always be remembered with gratitude.
To his family, friends, and constituents, we extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt prayers during this difficult time.
