09/21/12: Square Deal – Along with the Promenade, there were four public squares originally planned in Memphis in 1819. These were Court, Auction, Market, and Exchange. Of these four, only three where actually developed and only Court Square remains today.

What’s that Pointy Thing? - The Great American Pyramid stands 321 feet tall and as its name suggest, is built to mimic the Great Pyramid of Giza. Opening to the public on November 9, 1991 [edited] with a concert by The Judds, the Pyramid housed the annual Wonders Series – grand exhibits of art, history and ancient culture - and the Memphis Tigers (and originally the Memphis Grizzles) played basketball there. The iconic structure graced our police cars and City brochures. It closed after a final concert by Bob Seger on February 3, 2007. Currently it is being refurbished in a lease deal between the City and Bass Pro as a destination retail store.
