Broad Ave. has long been a symbol of what’s possible when a community comes together with creativity, courage, and vision.

A New Face for an Old Broad showed Memphis that neighborhood revitalization doesn’t have to start with major funding or policy, it can start with people, paint, and purpose. That one event transformed a street and sparked a movement that continues to shape how our community builds, activates, and reimagines public spaces.

This weekend’s Broad Avenue Art Walk celebrated 15 years of that legacy and the countless residents, artists, and business owners who turned an idea into impact.

BLDG Memphis is proud to carry that same spirit forward, supporting community development organizations, amplifying resident voices, and connecting the partners who make Memphis neighborhoods thrive.

15 years ago, this was the scene — paint rollers, plywood, ladders, and a lot of heart.

A New Face for Old Broad wasn’t just an event, it was neighbors proving what was possible. This is the work that transformed a forgotten stretch of Broad Avenue into one of Memphis’ most creative and beloved neighborhoods.

The spark that started here grew into a movement for community-led revitalization that’s still shaping our city today.

Stop by the BLDG Memphis Mobile Porch in front of Uncle Reds Saturday, November 1 from 11:00-3:00 during the Broad Ave. Art Walk to celebrate the 15th Anniversary of A New Face for an Old Broad. Catch up with those who made this project possible, grab some candy and beads, and share your Broad Ave. and MEMFix stories! We will take a group picture at 1:00!

It’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years since A New Face for Old Broad!

What started as an activation to show what could be possible on Broad Avenue sparked lasting change: inspiring new businesses, public art, and one of Memphis’ most beloved creative districts.

This Saturday, we’re celebrating that legacy at the Broad Avenue Arts Walk! Come enjoy art, music, food, and community — right where it all began.

Our New City Builders Class of 2025 just finished an incredible year of learning what it takes to build stronger neighborhoods across Memphis!

Through sessions on art, advocacy, community planning, small business, and real estate, participants gained real-world skills and connections to put equitable development into action.

With support from CommunityLIFT and a network of local leaders, these emerging neighborhood champions are ready to keep making change in Memphis, one block at a time.

A special thank you to Jim Kovarik, Founder of New City Builders, for speaking at graduation on the 10th Anniversary of the program.
