Climb On Safely is Scouting America’s procedure for organizing Scouting America climbing/rappelling activities. Here are the basics:

Qualified Supervision—A mature adult at least 21 years of age who understands the risks of climbing is needed. Additionally, one adult supervisor is required for every 10 participants. Ensure someone in the group is currently trained in first aid and CPR.

Qualified Instructors—A minimum of two instructors is needed, but more may be necessary to keep a 6-to-1 ratio of participants to instructors.

Physical Fitness—All participants are required to have an Annual Health and Medical Record to show evidence of fitness.

Safe Area—Use an established climbing/rappelling site or facility. Survey the site in advance for possible hazards and ensure it can accommodate the number of participants.

Equipment—Verify proper equipment is available and meets requirements outlined in Belay On.

Planning—Share your plans, secure any permits or permissions for venues/sites, obtain weather reports, and have emergency plans in place.

Environmental Conditions—Monitor potentially dangerous conditions like loose, crumbly rock; poisonous plants; wildlife; and inclement weather.

Discipline—All participants should respect and follow all instructions and rules. Learn and present the rules prior to the outing.

🚨New Lost Patrol Episode Out Now 🚨We are so excited to welcome our Eastern Region Chief Max, Section E3 Chief Luke, and former Section Chief Gary to the Lost Patrol Podcast. This episode was recorded during E3 Section Conclave hosted at Camp Currier. The audio is not up to our usual standards because we recorded in the Golightly Cabin which is over 100 years old. It is still a great episode despite the acoustic challenges. So sit back, relax, channel some rustic vibes and get the dish on how Order of the Arrow helps retain youth through service and fellowship. Let's Get Lost!

SYT update from the National Registrar:

The SYT Retake Course training logic has been corrected in the training platform.

Moving forward, the training requirements are correctly recognized as the following:

 Someone who took old YPT and never took the 90-minute course - They get the full 90-minute course
 Someone who took the full 90-minute course who expired more than 6 days ago - They get the full course
 Someone who took the full 90-minute course and expired 6 days or less (or are still active)- They get the refresher

Renewal emails will be directing individuals to their “My Training” so they can use the “Take Course” or “Retake Course” buttons where the logic is stored.

Anyone that has taken the Refresher without ever taking the full course will still need to take the full course. They will need to clear their cache and then the “Retake Course" button will direct them to the correct course.

If you have not taken the new Safeguarding Youth Training and your Youth Protection Training just expired, you will need to log into your my.scouting.org account and enroll in the main Safeguarding Youth Training course from the Home page (look for the image below) when you log in. Do not click "retake course" from the My Training section. That will take you to the refresher course, which will not count if you have not taken the 90 minute starter course. If you have taken the new Safeguarding Youth Training, and it has been more than a week since that has expired, you will have to retake the starter course and not the refresher course. Please share this will all the adults in your unit that this may pertain to. Thank you.
