On Saturday, 11 November, I was extremely honored to accept the 2023 AIA Memphis President's Award in recognition of outstanding contributions to the profession! The award was presented by current AIA Memphis president Chase Percer at the 2023 Celebration of Architecture and AIA Memphis 70th Anniversary Gala held at CiV, the downtown riverfront headquarters of AIA Memphis. The beautiful award is cut steel imprinted with the award information (I added the red behind the AIA Eagle so it would show up better in the photo).

I had no idea I would receive this and was totally caught off guard! As I walked back to my seat with the award in hand, I looked around the room and saw alums, current students, full-time and adjunct faculty, design jury volunteers, and supporters of our architecture school. I thought of Sherry and of what she started almost 40 years ago has evolved into today. And said to myself, yes, this is where we were destined to be.

Thank you again Chase and AIA Memphis.

The Architecture Scholars Institute, formerly Discovering Architecture + Design, is a college-preparatory and portfolio-building experience for 9th-12th graders who are interested in learning more about designing the built environment and the professions of architecture and interior design. The Architecture Scholars Institute is sponsored by the Department of Architecture in partnership with AIA Memphis, a chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

The 2021 AIA Tennessee Conference on Architecture will be held virtually over the course of three days - August 25th through August 27th. Volunteers across the state are hard at work developing an outstanding schedule for you!

Our 2021 Conference theme, "The PRICE of Change" will key in on the: P.andemic | R.acial I.nequity | C.limate | E.conomy. Through interactive breakout sessions, workshops, virtual tours, and dynamic speakers, we'll tackle these topics and challenge each conference attendee to ask, "what PRICE am I willing to pay to become a change agent in my profession and to society holistically?"
