A Step Ahead Foundation

We provide free birth control options, health education, & an annual scholarship for Memphians. Any woman with a Shelby County zip code qualifies.

A Step Ahead Foundation will pay for the costs of 3 types of long term, reversible birth control. NEXPLANON IMPLANT (Lasts 3 years)
MIRENA IUD (Lasts 5 years)
PARAGARD IUD (Lasts 10 years)

Any of these methods can be removed (free of charge) at any time for any reason. For more information about these types of birth control, visit our website. In accordance with Tennessee state law women under the age of 13 must have parental consent.

Our partner medical providers from Christ Community Health Services, Regional One Health, and Church Health recently joined us for hands-on Liletta IUD insertion training at our Crosstown Concourse office. 💙

During the training, providers strengthened their skills and learned more about paracervical blocks, an option that can help reduce discomfort during IUD insertion.

We’re grateful for our dedicated healthcare partners who continue to invest in their training and provide women with compassionate, high-quality reproductive healthcare.

Speaking of back to school, we joined the 2026 Regional One Health Primary Care Specialists Back-to-School Community Fair! 🎒

We connected with community members, shared information about our FREE health education programs, annual scholarship, and how FREE long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) supports their future.

We're excited to continue expanding our partnership with Youth Villages as Teen Talk sessions begin at the Rose Center for Girls this month! 💙

Our recent visit gave us the opportunity to tour the facility, connect with staff, and prepare for the meaningful conversations we'll have with girls through our Teen Talk program.

We’re grateful to work alongside Youth Villages and look forward to continuing these important conversations with teens in our community.

We welcomed residents from Rhodes College and Baptist Memorial Hospital-Memphis Family Medicine to our office to learn more about how we're expanding access to FREE long-acting reversible contraception (LARC) in our community. 💙

After the presentation, Dr. Kelly Jo Faulkerson shared her interest in bringing future Family Medicine residents and her undergraduate Health Equity students to learn more about our mission and the work we do.

Please join us in shining a light on our job shadows, Melia, a past Step Ahead Scholarship recipient, and Camryn, an ASAF volunteer! They spent a week with our team learning what it takes to run a nonprofit, gaining hands-on experience across multiple departments. ⭐

Throughout their experience, they:
💚 Attended a Partners in Prevention (PiP) session with our Community Partnerships team
💚 Helped prepare for and participated in a Teen Talk session
💚 Sat in on team meetings to learn how our departments work together
💚 Presented portions of our Scholar Power Session
💚 Assisted with preparations for our 2026 Step Ahead Scholarship Drive-Thru
💚 Captured video testimonials & polaroids from this year's scholars at the event

Our Job Shadow Program gives past scholarship recipients and ASAF volunteers the opportunity to explore careers in the nonprofit sector, build professional skills, and gain real-world experience while making a meaningful impact.

We're so proud of Melia and Camryn for embracing every opportunity, and can't wait to see what they accomplish next! 💙
