As a kid growing up in Memphis, Meka Egwuekwe remembers his first computer clearly: It was from Texas Instruments, the kind Bill Cosby was selling on TV. He played games for six months, then, bored, he pulled out the instruction book and began learning to program in a language called BASIC.

Recent Strengthening Communities recipienct The Healing Cathedral Christian Church is planning their fall health sessions. Take part for a healthier you.

Everyone has been impacted by cancer, whether you have lost a loved one, know someone fighting the battle, or someone who has kicked cancer in the butt! Come help us celebrate, educate, and engage the community with fitness.

The Community Cancer Education & Action Series is partnership between he Healing Cathedral Christian Church, local non-profits, and leaders in the field of cancer to provide learning opportunities in Whitehaven and the greater community that are hands-on, supportive, and useful in taking preventive measures, treatment options, support services, and community education. The Cancer Education Series will include, but is not limited to the following activities:

Lung Cancer Screenings

Fitness Classes

Supporting the Caretaker

Breast Cancer Screening

The Kick Off Event is Saturday, August 13th, starts at 9am.

Toye Bogard of FitNation will be leading a class starting at 10am. Other event updates coming soon. . .

Congratulations to our 2016 Strengthening Communities winners. Capacity Building Grants: Kimberly Alexander, Child Development & Family Studies and Binghampton Development Corporation; Vinhthuy Phan, Computer Science and CodeCrew. Small Grants: First Congregational Church (Memphis, TN), The Healing Cathedral Christian Church, and VECA - Vollintine Evergreen Community Association. We look forward to working with this group of recipients in the coming months.
