Another powerful moment from Student Advocacy:
Past, Present & Future at the University of Memphis.
After hearing from our speakers, students moved into focused breakout rooms led by UofM faculty, youth advocates, and community partners—diving deeper into conversations about equity, nonviolent action, campus organizing, and the history of the Memphis 13.
Small-group discussions, hands-on activities, and guided writing prompts gave students the space to question, reflect, and connect what they learned to their own lived experience.
The Memphis 13 themselves joined the breakout rooms—answering student questions, listening to their ideas, and encouraging them to use their voices with purpose and courage.
These rooms were filled with curiosity, leadership, and the next generation of advocates discovering their power.
This is what legacy in action looks like.
With gratitude to our partners: University of Memphis, United Education Association, Memphis-Shelby County Schools, Benjamin L. Hooks Institute for Social Change, and BRIDGES USA.
