As we wrap up 2025, we pause to say thank you to all of our generous donors and supporters. The Helen James Foundation would not be possible without you.

We were overwhelmed by the incredible turnout for our 5th Annual Helen James Foundation Golf Tournament in September, and our hearts continue to be full. Through your support, the foundation has provided a meaningful platform for our friends and family to speak openly about the importance of bereavement care and the life-changing impact it can have on families like ours who have experienced the loss of a child.

HJF has partnered with Texas Health Resources for the past three years, and we couldn’t be more proud. Their commitment to women’s care and bereavement care is truly next level. We’re in awe of the work they’re doing to put patients first.

Through this partnership, HJF has helped fund a labor & delivery suite and provide cuddle cots across the Texas Health system.

Lindsay and I were thrilled to attend their annual donor appreciation dinner, and even more honored to have Katie Talman join us. Katie lost her daughter, Everly, and is doing incredible things to honor her legacy, including passing Everly’s Law in Texas and sharing her story on Anderson Cooper’s podcast All There Is. Please follow her journey. She is amazing. 🤍

We also loved hearing from featured speaker Shawn Achor. His message on finding happiness was so encouraging, and his own NICU journey at a Texas Health hospital makes this partnership even more meaningful.

So grateful for our relationship with Texas Health and the connections we’ve made. We look forward to continuing to make an impact on bereavement care together for years to come. 💗✨

October is Pregnancy and Infant Loss Awareness Month. I am 1 in 4.

Like so many others, the journey to parenthood has not been an easy one for us. We’ve faced our share of heartbreak: 1 stillbirth, 3 miscarriages, and 1 ectopic pregnancy that led to emergency surgery and the loss of my left fallopian tube. Somehow, through it all, we’ve found the strength to get back up and try again and again.

I never knew how deeply I longed for a family of my own until we lost our daughter to stillbirth at 38 weeks. Hearing the words “there is no heartbeat” is a pain beyond measure—a grief unlike any other. My heart goes out to anyone who has endured such devastating loss.

As we move through October, we honor and remember all the babies and little lives gone too soon. In this journey, I’ve discovered an incredible community of support, people who show up in the darkest moments and organizations dedicated to helping families navigate unimaginable grief. For that, I am truly grateful.

If you’ve experienced loss, or if someone in your family or a friend has, please know you are not alone. HJF is always here to walk beside you, to listen, and to support you in whatever way you need. Your story matters. Reach out anytime.

Today marks Helen James' 7th birthday in heaven. As this day approaches each year, the loss feels so raw and tender. I think about what Helen's little personality would be like and how much fun she and her little brother George would be having together. Joel and I have spent a lot of time talking to George about Helen and do our very best to incorporate her into our family.

We are honoring her birthday this year with a unique opportunity outside the United States—in South America. The Helen James Foundation has launched a fundraising campaign to donate a CuddleCot to Hospital San Vicente Fundación Medellín in Colombia. The hospital is part of a network supported by a group based in Washington, DC, called the Baby Bear Foundation which is helping facilitate the donation.

This will be the first introduction and placement of a CuddleCot in the country and is setting the standard for what loss families deserve: choices about how and when they say goodbye—just like we had with our Helen James.

As we celebrate Mother's Day this weekend, I cannot help but have a heavy heart for all the moms who have a lost a child. Its a gut-wrenching, soul-crushing pain like none other.

Recently, I had the opportunity to spend the weekend with other loss moms and I was reminded that I am not alone in my grief. These moms understand all too well not only what it feels like to lose a child, but also the importance of honoring them. They are paving the way for change in legislation in their respective home states with the goal of doing everything in our power to provide standardization of care for loss families. As one brave mom said regarding why she does the work she does, "If not me, then who?" I could not have said it better myself.

To the one who first made me a mother, I love you always and forever Helen James. You are doing big things on this side of Heaven. We are counting down until we hold you in our arms again. Until then, we will honor you each and every day.

As we wrap up 2024, HJF would like to extend a huge thank you to each and every one of our supporters. Because of you, we have donated more CuddleCots than ever this year. Our footprint now extends not only from the west to east coast of the USA, but also south in Mexico and South America. Truly amazing!! Additionally, we have begun donating a new device called the CuddleBlanket for older children who have passed away. These are widely used in the European market and HJF donated the first two in the United States in Phoenix, AZ and Chicago, IL. Please visit our website for donation recipient details.
