National youth action partners, please share with your networks! BRIDGES, USA in Memphis is creating a NEW full-time staff position: Director of Bridge Builders Program Development.

Principal activities for this position include program design; curriculum development and revision; supervision of program evaluation; and supervision of training for the Bridge Builders facilitators, staff, and interns.

BRIDGES is in the process of developing a Youth Action Center to provide Greater Memphis area youth with leadership opportunities for community transformation in a wide range of fields such as: local government, social entrepreneurship, media, healthcare, and philanthropy. This position will be highly engaged in the development of programming and evaluation for this new endeavor.

“Maybe the adults have gotten used to saying, ‘It is what it is,’ ” she said from the podium, wiping tears with the heels of her palms, “but if us students have learned anything, it’s that if you do not study, you will fail. And this case, if you actively do nothing, people will continually end up dead. We are going to be the kids you read about in textbooks.”

Advocates of the measure say they have the support of seven of 13, a majority of D.C. Council members.

"I think people are getting excited about this, especially with what's going on in the nation right now in terms of youth leading social change. So I think that people are going to be very excited about it and want to get on board," said Alisha Chopra, 18, a senior at School Without Walls.

Should 16 and 17-year-olds be allowed to vote? D.C.‘s City Council is now considering that question. Legislation was introduced on Tuesday, April 10, 2018.

On April 4, 2018, the bells rang out across Memphis as part of the global commemoration, marking the 50th anniversary of the monumental loss of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Now that those bells have faded, the best way to honor him and other legendary leaders for peace and justice is to TAKE ACTION.
