Introducing our Horizon Chamber Collective member, Tyler Helms ! Hear him at our upcoming Echoes of Reflection on February 5, 2026!

Tyler Helms, a versatile performer and dedicated music educator, is a native of Longview, Texas. Currently, Tyler holds the position of Principal Trumpet with the Delta Symphony Orchestra and has also made appearances alongside the Memphis Symphony and the Arkansas Symphony Orchestras. Beyond his orchestral roles, he frequently performs as a lead trumpeter in jazz and commercial ensembles, and delves into chamber music collaborations with a focus on non-traditional instrumentation. Tyler's dedication to expanding the musical repertoire is evident in his enthusiasm for contemporary solo works for trumpet. Tyler enjoys exploring works that expand the auditory palette of the trumpet and integrating extended technique into fundamental practice and performance. Concurrently, he maintains his role as one of the most in-demand freelancers in the greater Memphis area.

Running parallel to his performing career, Tyler is the Adjunct Instructor of Trumpet at Arkansas State University and oversees a thriving private studio, guiding trumpet students to notable successes in state competitions, festivals, and National Trumpet Competition. As a small-town product himself, Tyler is a strong advocate for fine arts in smaller communities and bringing opportunity to young trumpet players that they otherwise might not have. As such, Tyler co-founded the International Trumpet Guild’s Emerging Professionals Committee dedicated to providing educational and professional development resources globally, with the mission of supporting, educating, and representing the next generation of trumpet players.

Tyler is currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in Trumpet Performance at the University of Memphis(ABD), he earned a Masters degree in Trumpet Performance from Arkansas State University in 2021 and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2019. Tyler expresses deep gratitude to his esteemed mentors: David Spencer, Nairam Simoes, Chris Wilson, Jake Walburn, Stephen Campbell, and Gary Wurtz.
