While we have finished basketball, baseball, softball, tennis, and soccor seasons, now awaiting a most anticipated football season, our Spirit Squads are buzy year around ensuring the fans receive the highest quality game day performances.
What are the spirit squads ? First, everyone in a skirt is not a “cheerleader” just like everyone on offense in football is not a lineman. Memphis Spirit consists of cheer, pom and mascots. Within Memphis Cheer, we have a 9 time National Championship All Female Squad & a Coed Squad. Within Memphis Pom, we have a 16 time National Championship All Female Squad & A Coed Squad known as The Memphis Ambush Crew. Let’s not forget the fan favorite, Pouncer and his handlers. This team of 80 athletes is not NCAA sanctioned. Unlike NCAA athletes, there are no limits on the amount of time they can try to fundraise for the team, not themselves, no limits on practice time, appearances, try to earn money to pay for college, and study and go to class.
Hence, the formation of the Memphis Spirit Foundation. We are a vehicle to help in the fundraising aspect backed by volunteers.
