Till The Day I Die

A week or so ago we rode up from West Central Florida to the panhandle we then headed west into Alabama. It was only 500 miles, however, it rained the entire way, then it got dark, then cold. So the easy 500 miles quickly seemed like much more.

We met up with some Brothers, ate pizza had some drinks, and caught up on some things. We called it a night around midnight or maybe one I don’t remember. We went to the hotel, laid our s**t out to dry, and grabbed some sleep.

The following morning we looked at the radar and to our dismay, the worst of the rain was just showing up. The rain at one point was simply disrespectful. Along the road, there were cars in the ditch, and on the median every few miles. Tow trucks were getting paid for sure. And the weather kept getting worse.

We were at first able to maintain safe intervals and stay oriented by watching tail lights. Then the rain got so heavy we could no longer see anything let alone tail lights. At that point, we knew we needed to exit. Eventually, an exit sign appeared out of the s**t storm so we began looking for the exit.

When rain and wind become so intense tail lights are not visible looking ahead to see the road markings for an exit become impossible. In these conditions, the only way to find exit markings is to look down and to the right at the white line by the front tire or foot peg and follow it. Follow it we did. We got gas, ate some dinner, and waited for a break in the storm. It began to rain harder and blow more.

We were spent and just wanted to get home so as soon as it slacked we decided to push on for the last 100 miles. The last 30 of course were bone dry. We all made it home in one piece.

I don’t regret the trip. We told the Brothers we were coming to see them and we showed up. If we would have known it was going to be that bad we would have caged. But, not being fortune tellers we got caught off guard.

But also the whole point of being in an MC is about riding motorcycles. We get caught in all kinds of s**t, cold snaps, rain storms, sand storms, traffic jams, break downs, heat waves, the list goes on. We bitch, complain, argue, and cuss while we endure the suck together. Then laugh about it for years to come.

I wouldn’t have it any other way. I joined an MC to ride my motorcycle and get to know my Brothers. That’s what I’m gonna do till the day I can’t.
