As National Police Memorial Week begins, members of the Memphis Pipe Band step into a role that goes far beyond music. Many of our players also serve by leading, instructing, and performing with Memphis’ public safety pipe bands—standing shoulder to shoulder with those who wear the badge.

Over the coming weeks, you’ll find our members at memorials across the Mid-South, throughout Tennessee, and in our nation’s capital. Each note played is part of a tradition rooted in respect, remembrance, and duty—honoring the men and women who gave everything in service to others.

We don’t take that responsibility lightly. It’s a privilege to be there in those moments, representing something bigger than ourselves.

Today is , and we are proud to wear the Modern Auld Alliance tartan.

The Auld Alliance was an alliance made in 1295 between the kingdoms of Scotland and France for the purpose of controlling England's numerous invasions. The Scots word auld, meaning old, has become a partly affectionate term for the long-lasting association between the two countries. Although the alliance was never formally revoked, it is considered by some to have ended with the signing of the Treaty of Edinburgh in 1560.

The ancient version of the tartan features the colors of both nations, with blue and green representing Scotland, and white and red representing France. In recent years, a modern version of the Auld Alliance Tartan has emerged, with a fresh color palette of rich blues and greys. We proudly wear this modern tartan, honoring our Scottish roots while while also paying homage to the colors that have long defined our great city.

The Auld Alliance is a representation of our band’s unwavering mission of serving the City of Memphis and its surrounding areas through the promotion and growth of Celtic Heritage throughout the community. We are steadfast in providing the Mid-South with the highest level of pipe band performance and education.

Thank you to The House of Edgar for weaving our material and skillfully crafting our kilts as we continue to weave our band’s story in this great city and to MacLellan Bagpipes for being our liason throughout the entire process.

In an effort to continue evolving and embracing the spirit of Memphis performance culture, the Memphis Pipe Band is proud to introduce a new addition to our repertoire…

Aerial Performance.

That’s right — beginning this season, select members of the band can now be found performing as part of The Beale Street Flippers.

Turns out maintaining steady bagpipe pressure translates surprisingly well to mid-air control. Who knew?

You’ll start seeing this incorporated into select performances around the city…

Same pipes. Same sound.
Just… a little more elevation.

💥 “Main Event” 💥 Michael Stubblefield

Ladies and gentlemen…

Every show has a moment where everything just clicks.

The energy shifts.
The crowd locks in.
And you realize—you’re watching something special.

Introducing “Main Event” Michael Stubblefield.

When Michael steps into the circle, it’s more than just music. It’s presence. It’s excitement. It’s the kind of energy that spreads from the first note and doesn’t let go.

Because Michael doesn’t just play the pipes…

He brings the moment with him.

And if you know Michael, you know there’s one place that matches that same level of excitement every single time—

Buc-ee’s.

Bright lights. Big personality. A place that feels larger than life.

Sound familiar?

So it only makes sense that standing right in his corner is his larger-than-life “manager,” Buc-ee himself—bringing the same energy, the same enthusiasm, and that unmistakable crowd-pleasing presence.

Together, they don’t just show up…

They make it a show.

Because when “Main Event” Michael Stubblefield is on the field, in the parade, or in the circle—

You’re not just watching a performance.

You’re watching the Main Event.
