Last Saturday, MTU held a Tenant Power Workshop! The Tenant Power Workshop helped bring together a group of renters from throughout the city of Memphis!!
MTU and renters we met during our Renters Blitz came out to talk about interest in organizing their buildings! Tenants from North and South Memphis met with their neighbors and talked about what they can do together to stop their housing issues!
Tenants are dealing with NO A/C ALL summer, NO heat ALL winter, pests, leaks in the: bathrooms, kitchens, and bedrooms, AND MANY MORE ISSUES!
Tenants have been living with conditions like these for YEARS and THAT AIN’T RIGHT! Our elderly, disabled, mothers, children, and MOST vulnerable Memphians are being SOLD for profit. Profits that many of us Memphians never see in return but are paid for by OUR paychecks and tax dollars!!
Tenants came together and trained up on what it means and looks like to come together as neighbors to build their union!! These Memphians are ready to tell these slumlords, NO MORE!!!
