The Cara Janeal Walton Scholarship is thankful🙏🏾 and grateful 🤗for the many donors who have poured into this scholarship over the years!

Each donation 💰has enabled us to award students attending an HBCU! It allows her legacy of service 🥰and scholarship 📚to live on!

It is our prayer🙏🏾to increase 📈the number #️⃣ of awards given and students 🎓impacted! We continue to work to do it better every year.

****Cara Janeal Walton Scholarship 2025****

We are pleased to announce the awarding of a CJW Scholarship to a Class of 2025 graduating high school senior at Brown Missionary Baptist Church at the 2025 inaugural Legacy Scholarship Luncheon/ Baccalaureate Service on Saturday, May 31, 2025.

Eligibility includes being a member of BMBC, plans to attend a 4 year HBCU college or university, an academic achiever, active in the community and in the church.

Lorenzo is the son of Mr.Freddie and Mrs Sharon Walker and Mr. Lorenzo Jackson, Sr.

Lorenzo was also blessed by the parenting and love of his bonus father Mr. Sanford Moore, who sadly passed away in 2020.

He is a 2025 graduate of DeSoto Central High School who excelled both academically and athletically during his high school career.

Lorenzo’s high school recognition includes: DCHS Jaguar 4 year varsity Defensive and Offensive Lineman with a 2024 state level Honorable Mention 7A Region 1 player; completion of the Epic Work Experience Program which gives students work experience in their career choices post high school. Lorenzo interned with Adobe Ranch for a total of 100 hours through the program. He successfully completed the DeSoto County Schools Career and Technology Culinary Arts Program. Lorenzo

Lorenzo is heading to Alcorn University in Lorman, Mississippi this fall as an Animal Science major. He aspires to become an Owner and Operator of a sustainable and productive cattle farm and other livestock.

He is an active and involved member of Brown Missionary Baptist Church. He has actively participated in the Sports Ministry activities, AWANA and Vacation Bible School. He attends services faithfully with his family.

We are all so excited for Lorenzo and I ask that you please join me in congratulating this phenomenal young man!!! He is truly a living testimony of faith and perseverance.

Cara was a devoted and active member of Brown Missionary Baptist Church during her lifetime. We feel blessed to honor Cara’s legacy of service and scholarship to aid students in their academic pursuits in this holy space.🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🎓💜🧡

Currently, the CJW Scholarship awards through Brown Missionary Baptist Church(HS graduate) and Alabama State University (continuing collegiate student).

The Cara Janeal Walton’s Scholarship proudly supports education through Scholarship and Service. On this 1st day of BLACK HISTORY MONTH ❤️💚💛2025, we highlight again the HBCU tidbit.

Cara was a proud MAGNA CUM LAUDE 2020 graduate of Alabama State University🐝 in Montgomery, Alabama- a historic city in the Movement.

I have a special place in my heart for HBCU’s and continue to support in memory of Cara and honor of those who paved the way.

Historically black colleges and universities––commonly called “HBCUs”––are defined by the Higher Education Act of 1965 as, “…any historically black college or university that was established prior to 1964, whose principal mission was, and is, the education of black Americans,…"

The Cara Janeal Walton Scholarship📚 is so proud to wish our very 1st recipient (2020) Kaitlyn Hearn God’s Blessings 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾as she is now a 1st year Medical student at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. She’s studying to become a Pediatric Oncologist.

Kaitlyn was a highly honored Spring 2024 graduate 👩🏾‍🎓 of Xavier University in New Orleans where she majored in Pre-Med/Biology/Chemistry. She became a legacy member of 🩷💚Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated during undergrad at XULA.

She is pictured here after her White 🥼Coat Ceremony at SIU-Carbondale this fall with her proud parents Mr. and Mrs. Torres (Jacquelyn) Bell. 🥰
