What a cook-off! We are incredibly grateful to everyone who came out, cooked, volunteered, sponsored, donated, cheered us on, and supported our 11th Annual Firemen’s Cook Off! 👨‍🚒🍗

Your generosity and continued support mean more to us than you know. Events like this are about so much more than great food—they’re about community, friendship, and coming together to support the volunteers who serve Melvin and the surrounding area.

On Wednesday, July 22, 2026, Century Mutual Insurance Association, a Northwest Iowa farm and residential insurance company, held its’ Annual Fireman’s Golf Benefit Tournament. This year’s event was held at the Primghar Golf & Country Club. Century Mutual sponsors the event with all entry fees from the teams being distributed to the fire department of their choice.
Golf started at 9:30 am with 94 golfers comprising 24 teams teeing off.

The annual event is an 18-hole tournament which is held to benefit the local area volunteer fire departments. This year’s event raised $6,170 for the local departments, which will be split among 15 local fire departments.

A special THANK YOU to Iowa State Bank for sponsoring the Melvin Fire Department’s team again this year. We are incredibly grateful for the continued support of our department and the opportunity to participate in this outstanding event.

Community partnerships like these make a real difference. Your investment helps volunteer fire departments continue serving and protecting the communities we call home.

Thank you for believing in the work we do and for always supporting local first responders. We are proud to represent Melvin and appreciate your generosity!

💦Blast 💦 hosting the Battle of the Barel at Melvin 125th Celebration yesterday!
~Thanks to all the fire department teams that showed up to compete, to the community that came to cheer us all on, and to the kids that showed their skills ~who we hope will be the next generations to volunteer in their communities!
