GFWC Melville Woman’s Club May meeting was very eventful and emotional. Thank you 2024-2026 President Wendy Sibille for all of your hard work and excellent leadership of our club! You are a true GFWC Club Woman in all that you do , especially in service to others! Special guests for the night: Angela Cutrera, GFWC/LA Past State President, Johnnie Taylor GFWC /LA District 2 Past President, Cindy Veillon Mattei , Opelousas Woman’s Club member and friend, Melissa Mouton, Katie Trahan, Shelbi Taylor, & Sophia Mengarelli, family members of Carol Artall. Thank you all for attending and making this such a memorable evening!

GFWC Melville Woman’s Club invited past GFWC of LA State President and member of GFWC Les Dames d’Etude, Angela Cutrera to install our 2026-2028 Club Officers. Officers installed are Brandi Guillory, President, Bridget Sylvester, President Elect/VP, Tonya Pitcher, Treasurer, and Susannah Smith, Secretary (absent tonight). Thank you Angela and Johnnie for attending our meeting and conducting our Installation of Officers.

During our May meeting, membership pins were awarded for years of GFWC Club Service. Judith Mitchell, 58 year club member and Carol Artall, 56 year club member received pins and bouquets of pink roses, our club flower! Thank you Judy and Carol for all of the years of dedication and service you have given. The number of projects that these two women have worked on is astounding when you put pen to paper attempting to calculate their work. We love and appreciate you both. Congratulations!

GFWC Melville Woman’s Club continues another worthwhile project of providing birthday gifts to residents of Tri Community Nursing home. During the month of May, gifts were provided by Faye LaBauve and Yvonne Artall. Thank you ladies!

GFWC Melville Woman’s Club did a little spring cleaning after the club meeting on May 14th. Club members collected printer cartridges for recycling throughout the club year. Donation site is available at our local Walmart. Thank you Kittie for making the delivery!

GFWC Melville Woman’s Club continues a long standing project of awarding two high school seniors with an academic scholarship. Lydia Duvall is one of the 2026 recipients, graduate of Port Barre High School. Congratulations Lydia and we wish you great success!!

May 2026 was a very eventful month for GFWC Melville Woman’s Club. May Garden of the Month was selected and awarded to Amy Thomasson of Melville! So colorful and full of life! Great job Amy. Congratulations!

GFWC/LA Melville Woman’s Club members participated in a long standing project: Sweet Treats for Teachers Appreciation Week! Club members took cookie trays to ten local schools including: Melville Head-start, Melville Pentecostal Church School, Palmetto Elementary School, Lebeau Head- start, North Central High School, Krotz Springs Elementary School, Avoyelles High School, Port Barre Elementary School, Port Barre Jr High and Port Barre High School. Thank you teachers for all that you do for our children!

GFWC / LA Melville Woman’s Club members, Kittie Hooks and Wendy Sibille participated in St Landry Evangeline “Take Back the Night” walk, held in Opelousas on April 28, 2026. President Sibille generously made the bow for the ribbon cutting ceremony for the event. Thank you all for bringing awareness and assistance to victims of domestic violence.
