Melrose Fire Department Post 242

We did a fantastic job this morning!!

We participated in the Triple Lay event and got a time of 6 minutes and 58 seconds, completed rapid dress with the quickest time being 1 minute and 20 seconds and the longest still under two minutes, as well as took the written exam for Cardiac Arrest Management.

Later this afternoon the post will be participating in the practical CPR event! So far we have had an amazing time and seen massive progress from our creation a year ago!

Today is a busy day for Post 242!

We first woke up to a moderate snowfall and it was some of the explorers first time dealing with ❄️!

Today plans include attending briefings for the competition, exploring the town, and then the opening ceremony later tonight.

Although we are from Florida we are faring pretty well so far in the cold!

Our post is currently in the way to Gatlinburg, TN for the Winterfest competitions! Thank you all for your support to get to this point!

Post 242 participated with Melrose Fire Department in a recent extrication training.

Explorers were taught the procedures that Melrose Fire follows during a vehicle accident and different scenarios we encounter.

Under supervision of senior members and officers the explorers had a chance to get up close to see how the tools interact with the vehicles while they are in operation.

In response to how well things turned out at the last pancake breakfast your Melrose Fire Department will be hosting another one at our station on 01/18/2020. This is the last pancake breakfast before Melrose Fire Department Post 242 heads up to Gatlinburg, Tennessee for the national competition.

The menu is the same as last time and we also take card as well!

$5 for pancake/sausage
$6 for pancake/sausage/egg
$1 for either coffee/milk/ sweet tea

Come out and show support for the explorers and enjoy some nice breakfast without the mess!

Come see us and warm up in the AM!

Good evening!

Just a reminder that the Merry Melrose Christmas parade will be at 10 am tomorrow morning through town.

If you are traveling down SR 26 or SR 21 there will be detours provided in order to navigate around town but please be mindful of parade traffic and pedestrians. Also please be mindful of speed in the residential parts of town.

Your Melrose Fire Department will be in the parade as well as having an open house for Melrose Fire Department Post 242. Our explorers will be selling Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and will be serving coffee in order to raise funds for a trip to Gatlinburg,TN for a national competition.

Single doughnuts will be $1 each and a dozen will be $10. Along with that we have coffee for sale at $1 a cup as well as popcorn until we run out!

The open house will last from 10 am till 12 noon and will feature info about the post and department. Feel free to stop by and let’s have a great and safe time!

Good morning Melrose!

Your post 242 is selling Krispy Kreme doughnuts at Williamson’s grocery in town today. We are raising money to compete in a national explorer post competition in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

We have already sold 17 dozen in an hour! Come get em before they are gone! We also have 10 certificates to get a dozen from a Krispy Kreme location at your convenience.

Yesterday post 242 was getting familiar with confined space blackout drills to find a downed firefighter. The members did an amazing job for the first time being blacked out! We plan on building on top of this to make it more and more challenging until we got it down. Excellent work crew!

Tonight was a casual night for post 242!

We went over how to tie knots such as the dreaded knot of all firemen known as: Bowline knot as well as the understanding of its multiple uses.

We also discussed the possibility of our post to try and attempt to go to Winterfest 2020 to compete with other explorer post across the country!

Some training tonight regarding ladders on how to carry and operate them on a fire ground!

Slowly but surely working on learning and mastering skills! Soon we might be ready to take on other local post in a friendly challenge!
