Chief Lyle is proud to announce that registration for the 2022 Melrose Jr. Police Academy has begun. This tradition has been a summer hit for our city’s youths over the past several years. The academy is for 4th-8th students of Melrose schools, as well as residents who attend private schools.
During the week, cadets will meet several of Melrose’s finest; including Patrolman, Detectives, K9s and Handlers, Traffic Officers, Prosecutors, Bicycle Unit Members, and for the soon to be Middle School students the School Resource Officers. Additionally, there will be many opportunities to get up and close with some of the equipment and emergency vehicles, as well as one full day with Melrose Fire Department. The instruction periods will educate on dozens of topics from internet safety, the dangers of drugs, first aid, traffic safety, as well as learning what Melrose Police does every day to keep our city safe.
The following are that dates of the 3 separate academy classes. Each child is allowed only 1 week:
Week 1 class: June 27th – July 1st
Week 2 class: July 11th- July 15th
Week 3 class: August 1st – August 5th
Applications can be picked up anytime at the Melrose Police Station, 56 West Foster Street. There are NO sign ups online, so please make sure to fill out application and deliver back to that station. This tends to fill up very quickly and it is first come, first served.
This program has been FREE of charge, and we intend to keep it that way. This is all possible from local businesses donating. If you would like donate, please contact Sgt. Nikolaus MacIntosh if you have any questions. [email protected]
