It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Jeff Peters , the force and visionary behind the Mellen Brownstone Center.

After a courageous battle with illness, Jeff left us far too soon. It is heartbreaking to know he never had the chance to see his dream for the community come to life.

His passion and dedication inspired many, and his vision for the Brownstone Center was rooted in hope, creativity, and connection. At this time, the future of the building remains uncertain, but Jeff’s legacy will continue to live on in the hearts of all who believed in his dream.

A sunrise over Lake Superior at the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan a few hours east of Mellen. The 60,000 acre park is home to 35,000 acre-old-growth forest with numerous waterfalls and other natural treasurers like one of the largest natural springs in the Midwest. An artistic rendering and blueprints on how the old bank will repurposed will be shared soon. (Photo by Jeff Peters)

SNAPSHOTS of people like Ted and Florence Carlson will be shared using words and images at the Mellen Brownstone Center. Ted was a farmer, school bus driver, along with being a draft horse “whisperer” confirmed a photo of him at a logging site decades ago. “Ted could calm down almost any animal,” reported Howard “Bud” Peters, who also shared many fine home cooked meals by Florence at Carlson’s home in the Town of Morse.
