October Chapter Meeting - When Good People Mess Up- Why Ethical Behavior Is Harder Than You Think

Thursday October 9, 202511:15 AM - 1:00 PM

One Oak at Hemingway's
1800 W Hibiscus Blvd., Suite 108
Melbourne, FL 3290

We like to believe we're ethical, but real-life workplace decisions tell a different story. In this fast-paced, interactive session, our speaker Dr. Cris Wildermuth will pull back the curtain on why good people sometimes make questionable choices. Using short, real-world cases, participants will uncover key cognitive biases and societal pressures that get in the way of doing the right thing. Expect cool discussions, quick-hit ethical dilemmas, and practical strategies to help HR professionals foster an environment where doing the right thing isn't left to chance. This session is not a lecture, so please come ready to think, react, and talk it out.

Dr. Cris Wildermuth is a Professor of Leadership and the Director of Barry Universityโ€™s Bachelor of Science in Organizational Leadership and Master of Science in Leadership and Innovation at the School of Business and Public Administration. At Barry, Dr. Wildermuth teaches organizational leadership, ethics, and human resource development courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Toxic workplace cultures can lead to high turnover, decreased productivity, and increased legal risk, including claims of harassment, discrimination, and retaliation. This session equips HR professionals with tools to identify and address toxic behaviors and environments before they escalate. Attendees will learn how to foster a healthy, respectful workplace culture while navigating the legal challenges that arise from toxic dynamics. From preventative policies to response strategies, this presentation offers actionable solutions to mitigate risks and build a more positive work environment.

โ€œNew Age Well-Being in the Workplaceโ€

During this presentation we will compare and contrast old school wellness and new aged well-being within organizations. We will review the most common difficulties our team members are having that are often undiagnosable conditions. These conditions and lifestyle habits can be the incendiaries of disease which make them a priority to recognize in our populations. We will review what makes a wellness program successful and how to identify the well-being needs of the organization.

1. Participants will learn what new aged objectives wellness programs can have
2. Participants will be able to identify the top 5 โ€˜unseenโ€™ diagnoses that employees have
3. Participants will learn what opportunities there are to address overall well-being from the ground up
