41 years ago, the Rotary Club of Suntree was chartered! Over the years, members have participated in many service projects in the local community and internationally. Our Motto of "Service Above Self" is evident in all that we do, from road cleanups along Wickham Rd, to providing clean water and sanitation to remote villages in Honduras.

This morning we welcomed Aly Elmasian, Operations Director for Aging Matters in Brevard, to the Rotary Club of Suntree.

Aly shared how Aging Matters has been serving Brevard County seniors since 1965 through programs that support independence, health, safety, and quality of life. We learned about their many services, including Meals on Wheels, Seniors at Lunch dining sites, senior transportation, in-home care and support, caregiver resources, and volunteer opportunities throughout the community.

One of the most impactful takeaways was that their work is about much more than providing meals—they also provide companionship, wellness checks, and meaningful connections that help seniors remain independent and engaged.

Thank you, Aly, for sharing the important work Aging Matters is doing to nourish seniors and strengthen Brevard County.

This week, members of the Rotary Club of Suntree spent time serving the amazing kids at the Boys & Girls Club of Melbourne.

Our volunteers cooked and served hot dogs and sodas for lunch, donated a refrigerator to support the club’s needs, and worked alongside the kids to create custom window blinds decorated with their colorful handprints. It was a fun project that gave the children a chance to leave their mark while brightening up their space.

Service Above Self is more than a motto—it’s about making a positive impact in our community, one project at a time.

Members of the Suntree and Melbourne Rotary Clubs teamed up together to help create food packages for the Children Hungers Project. 1280 baggies were packaged in under two hours with the volunteers working the assembly line. This is just one example of the kind of service projects that these clubs do for the local community, as we provide "Service Above Self".

Young adults transitioning from foster care and homelessness deserve more than temporary solutions. They deserve stability, dignity, and a coordinated system of support that would stay with them as they build their future. Ways for Life provides wrap-a-round services for you ages 15 to 25 to support a successful transition to adulthood. They provide education, employment, legal advocacy, care management and housing for these youth.

The Rotary Club of Suntree presented a $2,000 check to Pamela Bress, executive director, at this morning's meeting. This money will go toward medical treatment. Joining her is club President, Chris Myers (left) and Debbie Williams (right), club's Foundation Chair.

This morning we heard from a great speaker at Rotary Club of Suntree.

We heard from Ingrid Marin, an Italian exchange student, shared her experience attending the RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awakening) camp. She talked about the friendships she built, the fun she had, and the valuable lessons she learned about leadership and Rotary’s core values.

This morning we heard from Dean at the Brevard Veterans Memorial Center and learned about the incredible work they’re doing to honor and support our veterans here in Brevard County.

We learned about their expanding campus, including a new amphitheater, museum exhibits featuring military history and artifacts, and some really interesting features like a working periscope. The center also serves as a gathering place for veterans organizations and community events.

Out of the tragic death of their two year old son, Josh, came a water safety program named for the young boy - The Josh the Otter Water Safety Program. This program brings the message about water safety to young school children teaching about learning to float, to swim, and to always have an adult when near the water.
Members of the Suntree Rotary Club has presented this life-saving program to several local preschool and school age children over the past three weeks. One member dons the Josh the Otter costume and is treated to high-fives and hugs by the children. Thanks to John, Mike and Norm for being Josh. And thanks to the rest of the team of volunteers for supporting the program... Linda, Annette, Andre, Patsy, Mary, and JoAnn.
