🐾 A proud Melbourne High Bulldog! ❤️🖤 Celebrating Dr. Kirk’s journey from student to educator and now principal, a beautiful reminder of the lasting impact of great teachers and a lifelong passion for learning. Thank you, Dr. Kirk, for your dedication to education and the Melbourne High School community! 🎓👏

We are continuing our celebration of National Principals Month with another look at Dr. Kirk’s journey! 🐾

After graduating from Mel High, Dr. Kirk attended Florida State University, where he was a member of the Marching Chiefs! 🎶 He later returned to Brevard and began his career in education, teaching history at Hoover Middle School, Bayside High School, and then his alma mater, Melbourne High School.

Why history? Dr. Kirk grew up in Southwest Virginia, where his father’s love of history led to visits to Civil War battlefields when he was young. “The stories of these men and women in the Civil War, their struggle, and the reason they fought were the catalyst for me studying history in college.”

“I will add that I had an excellent 9th grade World History teacher by the name of Tom Philpot. He, more than any other teacher, was the reason I became a history teacher in Brevard County.”

Did you know that October is National Principals Month? Did you know that Dr. Kirk was a Bulldog himself? 🐾

Before he was our principal, Dr. Kirk was a student at Melbourne High -- and some of his favorite memories were made with The Pride of Mel High Marching Band! "That experience really supported my love for music through high school, into college, and now as an adult."

Dr. Kirk participated in marching band (he was Drum Major his senior year!), concert band, jazz band, and All-County and All-State ensembles.

He also credits former band directors Scott Smith and Mark Sanders with having a lasting impact on him: "Those two men definitely had an impact on my life."
