MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

Andrea Huffman is a mixed media textile artist that recently relocated to Brevard County from South Florida. She earned a Masters degree in Art Education from Florida International University and taught art in Broward County Schools for over 30 years, and ten years in Museum Education in Broward and Palm Beach. Andrea has exhibited locally and nationally and has received several awards and grants for her art as well as for community art events that she has coordinated.

"I am intrigued with the small nuances in nature, the interdependence within every aspect of the natural world and its relationship to humanity. I create works of art on fabric to connect viewers to my personal experiences and observations of my environment. Fiber offers tactile and dimensional qualities unlike other media, while essentially maintaining a two-dimensional surface.

My work draws upon both fine art and craft traditions, as well as contemporary innovations. I integrate various media, including drawing, painting, printmaking and digital imagery, with machine and hand stitching to embellish each image in a way that will emphasize and convey to the viewer, my initial fascination with my subjects. Through this process I seek to actively engage each viewer in a visual dialogue about our connectedness to the natural world and the desire to preserve its beauty." - Andrea Huffman

Brevard Cultural Alliance Executive Director Ginger Wolfe-Suarez joined BCA Board Chair Dr. Susan Pinsky and Lindsay Barber, the first recipient of BCA’s Veteran Art Supplies Award, for a podcast on WFIT Radio, discussing the Alliance’s mission, accomplishments, and vision for the future.

From Art in Public Places to veteran initiatives and performing arts, BCA continues to create opportunities for artists throughout Brevard County while enriching the entire community.

With the potential relocation to the Cape Center in Cape Canaveral, an exciting new chapter could unfold, allowing BCA to expand its reach and better serve artists, veterans, seniors, and the broader community. The arts are for everyone!

Dr. Pinsky emphasized that the arts bring joy, connection, and healing, not only to those who create but also to those who experience them.

Lindsay shared how art helps her process trauma and heal, expressing gratitude for BCA’s support and the art supplies that will help her create a meaningful textile piece.

Not even lightning and pouring rain could stop our Thriller dancers! ⚡🧟‍♀️

At Thursday’s Open House, our fearless dancers braved the storm to give us a sneak peek of the Thriller flash mob, spearheaded by the Brevard Cultural Alliance!

As Halloween approaches, these spooky performances will pop up at three locations across Brevard County. Rumor has it that even the Zoo might be in for a fright! 🦇

For 51 years, BCA has been Brevard’s local arts agency.

That’s the kind of impact we want to keep making.

The City of Cape Canaveral has drafted an agreement inviting BCA to take on the Cape Center, and we’re hopeful that continuing development of arts and culture programs will take the lead in the decision-making in the next few days.

Can you imagine a community art museum, a continuous Friday Fest that Cape Canaveral citizens love with even more local artists, and year-round classes where neighbors, veterans, and families can create together?🗓️ Show your support for art and culture!
