Recently I sent out emails to many of our Moose Legionnaires with a very important message. Some have replied but quite a few have not responded. I didn't do this "for my health", but for the health of the Lodge. I will re-post the letter here, because we do not have emails for many of you. If you are a Legionnaire, please read and respond. Otherwise, your drinks will be watered down and your beer will be stale (just kidding! ) however, this letter and your input is very important.
Greetings fellow Moose Legionnaires!
I have agreed to contact you to get your input how to put some more energy back into the 1406 Moose Legion, and my quest starts here….
Many of you have given numerous years to making our lodge (or other home lodge) a place for rest, relaxation, fellowship, and fun. It’s still a place we can catch up with goings on of the world, the country, (check out the babes), and our community. However, some faces have all but disappeared and I’m getting lonely, and I’m trying to find out what I can do. Our situation, however, is not unique. Many civic and service organizations are having difficulty finding, retaining, and energizing members, and some organizations have fallen by the wayside.
Please take a few moments and tell me what would enable you to become more active in the Moose Legion-anything that’s on your mind. If it’s about you being over-burdened, too involved with other organizations, or because of health reasons, I can certainly empathize with you. (I hope you are reading the Health and Wellness articles I’ve been writing periodically in the Moose Magazine!) However, if it’s because of Lodge policies, personnel, the color of the men’s room, the quality of the toilet paper, our bartenders, our events, ANYTHING, it’s on the table. Try to be specific so we can address your concerns. If you have issues with anyone at the Lodge, your names will not be mentioned to my report to the Board. We really need to come together and get back on track, so let it out, spread your wings, spill your guts, and let me know how your Board can help. We can and WILL make the changes necessary to try to make you happy, of course we can’t perform miracles and can’t do anything about daylight savings time, but you never know what we can accomplish until we try together.
Why not take a couple minutes now (before you forget) and jot down your thoughts, or write a note and put it in my mailbox at the lodge (I think I have one). It does NOT need to be signed…and please do NOT write in blood-that would REALLY give me the creeps!
Remember why we became members of the Legion…
The Moose Legion is known as being the “Degree of Service” because of the many programs it supports. It is also possibly even better known as the “Fun Degree.” Our members do like to enjoy themselves! Our mission is: “To have fun while providing greater service to the Moose fraternity.” Our motto is: “To do some good thing for someone each day.”
Peace and love,
Michael Edwards, Moose Lodge 1406 Trustee
(As a final note, attached is a Member Questionnaire. If you don’t have one on file or it needs updated, this is a great time to do so! There are hard copies on the table at the lodge by the men’s bulletin board.)
