Join the Meeteetse Museums on June 20th at 3:00 PM for Photographing Things with Wings, a discussion of some basic tips for capturing images of birds and insects. This discussion/how-to guide will be led by Kathy Lichtendahl. Beginner photographers welcome, including those who mostly use their smartphones for photos!

Kathy is a professional nature photographer based in Cody, Wyoming, where she has owned and run Light in the Valley, LLC since 2014. A graduate of the Photographic Communications program at Northwest College, Kathy went on to teach at the college between 2015 and 2018. Her images can be found accompanying stories promoting conservation in a wide variety of local, regional, and national publications. Kathy also spends a number of weeks each year leading workshops in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem and beyond for several well-known photo expedition companies. Kathy’s work can be seen on her website at www.kathylichtendahl.com.

We are temporarily closed this morning while we install new double-pane windows in the front room of the Belden Museum. We are always working to preserve and improve our spaces, and we can't wait for you to see the finished look.

The main Museum building will reopen to the public once the installation wraps up later today. We appreciate your flexibility and patience, and we look forward to welcoming you in this afternoon to enjoy the exhibits!

We love a good history mystery, but we need your help to solve this one! Calling whoever left this incredibly neat cup on our windowsill recently—first of all, thank you for thinking of us, but second of all, we need you to come tell us its story! The inside is pretty rusted, but we can make out the words “Compliments of Meeteetse Mercantile Co Meeteetse, Wyoming.”

We would absolutely love to submit this piece to our collections committee for official acceptance into the museum, but to do that properly, we need its history. Was this a gift with a purchase at the old Merc? What years was it actively used? Was it intended for drinking out of, or did it serve as a grain or flour scoop? If you are the mystery donor, please reach out to us so we can give this artifact the proper documentation it deserves. You can call the museum at 307-868-2423, email [email protected], or just swing by the desk in person to chat!

Are you ready to walk among thousands of years of history? Join the Meeteetse Museums on June 13th for an exclusive tour of the Legend Rock State Petroglyph Site alongside Dr. Julie Francis. Legend Rock features a spectacular, 1,312-foot near-vertical cliff that is home to more than 92 petroglyph panels and over 300 ancient figures. Seeing this sacred and historic site is an unforgettable experience on its own, but exploring it with Dr. Francis's expert interpretation makes it truly unmatched.

Due to limited space on the trail that winds along Legend Rock, we are limiting tours to 10 people per tour. The first tour kicks off at 9:30 AM and the second begins at 11:00 AM. Public registration is open, and spaces are filling up. You can secure your spot right now by calling the museum at 307-868-2423 or by stopping by to sign up in person. Just a quick heads up for your weekend planning: Legend Rock is located about 40 miles south of Meeteetse, so participants will need to provide their own transportation to the site.
