Our Court Appointed Special Advocates are a consistent, caring presence on behalf of children in the court system.

Thanks to OhioGuidestone staff Melissa Romain and Heather Luntz for their informative presentation to our CASA Volunteers today. It was a joy to tour the the Youth Resiliency and Counseling Center and learn about collaboration with mental health professionals. We look forward to incorporating today's insights into our best interest advocacy for Medina County children!

Proud to have participated in Akron Children's Hospital's first ever ACH Goes Orange event last week. This event highlighted that unfortunately, the leading causes of death in children and adolescents in the United States is firearm-related injuries.

Today, on National Gun Violence Awareness Day, CASA of Medina County is reminded of the role each of us can play in safe storage of lethal means and in community violence prevention.

Last week, CASA of Medina County attended the 2026 Ohio Foster Care Summit - Together for Ohio Youth in Out of Home Care at Nationwide Children's Hospital. This inaugural, interdisciplinary conference asking important questions about increasing prosocial behaviors, supporting youth transitioning out of care, promoting caregiver retention, and advocating for the rights of foster children. Our organization is grateful for the opportunity to learn alongside fellow professionals in child welfare and pediatric healthcare. Looking forward to next year's summit!

What an exciting day for Medina County! Yesterday, CASA of Medina County swore in 6 new CASA Volunteers as well as our new Advocate Supervisor, Rachel Harriman. We are thrilled to grow our force of CASA Volunteers to 20 strong! A wonderful showing of community support gathered for our second ever Swearing In ceremony at the Medina County Juvenile Court. Congratulations to Kathy, Gwen, Jessica, Beth, Sarah and Mo for officially becoming Court Appointed Special Advocates! Thank you for your commitment to advocate for the best interest children in Medina County.

Thank you to Sarah Brecht, Founder of the nonprofit: A Safe Space for Self Injury Support for an insightful InService training this past Monday. Sarah was also kind enough to donate mental health items for the children we serve and provide a catered lunch for our CASA Volunteers. We are so grateful for both your time spent on this training and for your organization existing in our community, Sarah. Exciting news that CASA of Medina County has officially hired our new Advocate Supervisor!

Rachel Harriman received Public Affairs Journalism and Criminology degrees from Ohio State University and later earned her J.D. and Master’s in Public Administration from Cleveland State University. Rachel has also been a Volunteer with Cuyahoga County CASA since 2021 and is passionate about serving the needs of children and families across the state. In her free time, Rachel enjoys hiking, traveling, reading, and cooking.

We are so lucky to have Rachel Harriman on our CASA of Medina County team. Please join us in welcoming Rachel!

What a great Ohio CASA Day at the Statehouse! CASA of Medina County was honored to gather yesterday alongside CASA Volunteers, Legislators, Judges, and supports from across Ohio in raising awareness for the important work of our programs. A huge thank you to CASA Volunteer Rick Wuescher for his presence and representation of our amazing Medina County CASA Volunteers!

Even snow could not put a damper on our Community Pinwheel Walk this past Sunday at the Historic Medina Square! Family activities and food trucks brought joy to countless faces followed by an Official Program with Proclamations for Child Abuse Prevention Month. Attendees walked 1-mile around town to plant this year's Community Pinwheel Garden at the Medina County District Library. A total of 457 pinwheels were planted: one for every case of child abuse investigated in Medina County in 2025. Thank you to The Children's Center of Medina County for a wonderful and important event!

Last Wednesday we had our first ever Medina County CASA Get Together for case review and best practices sharing.
