Yesterday, CASA of Medina County welcomed five new CASA Volunteers during our third Swearing-In Ceremony at the Medina County Juvenile Court, growing our team to 25 dedicated advocates!

Congratulations to Rachel, Elizabeth, Cynthia, Roseann, and Stacey on becoming Court Appointed Special Advocates. 💙 We’re grateful for their commitment to advocating for the best interests of children in our community.

With over 2,500 CASA Volunteers across 61 counties serving more than 9,000 children annually, the Ohio CASA/GAL Network is robust and impactful. Last week, 13 total representatives from CASA of Medina County attended the Ohio CASA/GAL Association's 31st annual Celebrate Kids! Conference: Building and Strengthening Connections. Our 13 attendees included two CASA staff members, our Board Vice President, and, for the first time ever, 10 Medina County CASA Volunteers. With over 700 attendees present, we built and strengthened connections with child welfare professionals from across the state. Looking forward to applying our insight learned here in Medina County and attending the 32nd annual Celebrate Kids! Conference in 2027.

As September draws to a end, concluding Child Welfare Worker Appreciation Month, we want to commend the daily dedication of Medina County Job and Family Services. Thank you for your unwavering commitment to the children and families of Medina County. YOU make the world a better place!

Last week, CASA Advocate Supervisor, Rachel Harriman, attended the "Promising Practices Conference" in Dublin, Ohio, sponsored by Foster Success and the Ohio Department of Children & Youth. Young people transitioning out of foster care face multiple barriers in education and having a supportive adult around them is often what helps youth succeed and flourish.

The Promising Practices Conference brought educators, child protection professionals, and community partners together for a day of practical strategy review, honest conversation, and real connection – all aimed at helping older foster youth thrive in high school, college, and beyond. Rachel is grateful for the opportunity to learn from panelists and speakers who shared their journey through the foster care system and lived experiences after aging out with attendees.

We’re so glad to have Rachel on the team!

This month we’re spotlighting Rachel Harriman, CASA of Medina County’s Advocate Supervisor!

Rachel joined The Children’s Center’s team in May with a strong background in law and advocacy, and a passion for supporting children and families. After earning a joint Master of Public Administration and Doctor of Law from Cleveland State University, Rachel worked in Family Law and volunteered with CASA of Cuyahoga County and LegalWorks.

Her experience and commitment to advocating for children make her a strong addition to our CASA team. We are so grateful to have Rachel with us and look forward to all she will bring to CASA of Medina County and the children we serve!

What an incredible surprise!

Kim Miller, Board Member of The Children’s Center of Medina County, had the privilege of working with a remarkably generous client who wished to include Kim in her estate plans. While deeply honored by her kindness and confidence, Kim explained that she could not accept such a gift.

Instead, her client graciously allowed Kim to direct these funds to a charity of her choice, and she chose CASA of Medina County! Kim is excited to see her client’s legacy of compassion honored through this gift, which will continue to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and families for years to come.

As students head back to school, you can also head to class! CASA of Medina County is preparing for our third PreService training class beginning in just a few weeks.

This PreService to become a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Volunteer will run for 5 consecutive Tuesday nights in-person at our CASA office from 5:30-8:30PM between 9/8/26 and 10/6/26. The full list of training dates are as follows:
• September 8, 2026 from 5:30-8:30PM
• September 15, 2026 from 5:30-8:30PM
• September 22, 2026 from 5:30-8:30PM
• September 29, 2026 from 5:30-8:30PM
• October 6, 2026 from 5:30-8:30PM
