Winter Warmth Mission

Winter Warmth Mission We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit charity, providing warming and emergency items to the homeless

Inspired by this video: http://youtu.be/Y6fkyf9UGAE ... we started putting together backpacks for the homeless here in Cleveland, OH. In the last few years our focus has been to provide warming and emergency items to the homeless and those in need living outdoors to help prevent harm from prolonged exposure to cold temperatures.

"WARMING SUPPLIES FOR TIFFANY AND HER SON - SLEEPING IN THEIR TRUCK": Recently we received a request from Tiffany, who was experiencing homelessness. She said there was no room at the shelters so her & her 19 year old son were sleeping in their truck.

We were able to get them 2 warm sleeping bags, 2 wool blend blankets, and hats & gloves. Thanks to you all, we were able to help her in her time of need, and she was very thankful for that, so thank you donors!

"WARMING SUPPLIES FOR A FAMILY": Recently we've been communicating with Michael. He & his family are living out of state in FL, and have been struggling to get assistance. According to Michael, "We lost our home and can't find help anywhere, we lost everything clothes, bedding, everything". They also lost their IDs, which makes it harder he noted to get help from local shelters.

Their family of 5 consists of Michael & his wife, and 3 children (two girls 17 & 18) and one boy (13).

Since they were living outside of a person's house in a single make-shift tent (out of a tarp), we ordered the following warming items for him & his family:
- Sleeping pads/mats, shoes for his daughter, jacket for his wife, sleeping bags for his wife & 2 daughters
- Sleeping bags for him & his son
- Two (2-3) person tents, and a jacket for his other daughter

We don't come across families w/ children experiencing homelessness as often, but it always saddens us to see kids in the mix having to deal with this as well. Thanks to you all & your kind donations, we were able to offer some comfort & warmth today.

"HOMELESS OUTREACH IN BROOKPARK / PARMA HEIGHTS": This morning we went looking for some homeless in the Parma area, which our partners told us about. Today on our trip we met:

- Suzie, who was walking outside in the cold with a sign in hand. Talking with her we shared a box of handwarmers and discovered she was in need of a tent, sleeping bag, and sleeping mat, which we found today & mailed to her friend's address for her

- Maureen, who occasionally stays with her dad. We also shared with her a box of handwarmers and found out she needed warm winter socks & thermal underwear, so we shipped that to her dad's house for her as well

On the way to Parma this morning, we said a small prayer. One that we would be guided to those who needed us. God delivered on that prayer.

"THANK YOU ANONYMOUS DONOR!": The last few years around this time we have received a very generous (anonymous) donation from a supporter via Fidelity's Charitable Donor-Advised Funds.

We hope the individual who makes this donation knows how appreciative we are. We also wanted to let them know that their donation will go towards helping to provide warming items for the homeless each winter.

We often purchase and distribute a number of cold weather sleeping bags, tents, boots, hand warmers, sleeping mats, etc. for the unsheltered homeless with the many kind donations we receive.

Thank you again for thinking of us and our mission!

"HOMELESS OUTREACH IN DOWNTOWN CLE": Today on a cold & windy day, we joined the great group at the Northeast Ohio Coalition for the Homeless (NEOCH) for outreach in downtown Cleveland.

On our trip today we met:
- Shannon, a guy who with his girlfriend were living in a tent at a park. We also drove them to the CMHA to get a voucher for 1 year of housing.
- Roren, a girl who was staying in a tent near the stadium downtown, and shared with her a sleeping bag and some food items and hot chocolate.
- Chris, who was standing right next to a heating grate with his tent to try & stay warm, wearing little to no warm clothes. The team provided him with a sleeping bag & numerous clothing items.

Thanks to your generosity, today we were able to donate:
- 15 quick setup dome tents
- 10 sleeping bags
- 15 pairs of heavy duty winter gloves

Thank you for helping us help others!

"NEXT STEP UP - MEDINA COUNTY EMERGENCY HOUSING SHELTER": A week or so back we got in touch with Jessie, the Program Director for Emergency Housing Assistance, and learned more about the emergency family shelter that opened up this year here in Medina County. What a great organization and place. Next Step Up Emergency Housing Shelter has 27 beds (and 2 cribs) that offer emergency housing for families (which is quite rare) as well as even family pets!

We know that, given the high demand for such a facility, there will likely be times when they unfortunately must turn away a few folks if they are full to capacity. We're told that many of those end up sleeping in their cars, etc.

So, to offer some warmth for those people, as well as to help keep some of the residents warmer, we donated today:
- 10 winter sleeping bags
- 60 sets of gloves/hats/scarves
- 400 hand warmers

It's a great group and program. If you'd like to learn more about it, see: https://bat.viebit.com/watch?hash=wfHu0Fg6H9nTUbmT

"WINTER WARMING ITEMS FOR TAMMY & HER DAUGHTER": The other day Tammy reached out to us. She was in an intermediate housing situation and looking for some warming items for her & her daughter.

So today we sent her per her request:
- 2 sets of Women's hoodie & sweatpants
- 2 Women's winter jackets
- 2 wool blankets

Her story ... "I'm originally from Medina Ohio. I was living in subsidize housing for 12 years. I moved to Caramel Indiana to marry my ex-husband giving up my security and being able to stay in subsidize housing and being able to afford rent. My daughter is mentally delayed. I'm not put back into the position of not being able to find housing. I'm back in Medina County."

"SUPPORT FOR HILOCK FELLOWSHIP CHURCH'S HOMELESS PROGRAM": Kay from Hilock Fellowship Church in Columbus OH reached out to us recently. They have a ministry that gets together on the 1st Saturday of the month that meets behind the library to feed and clothe the homeless with all donations. They were in need of warming items for them, so we were glad to be able to assist.

This week we ordered and shipped them:
- 120 pairs of winter socks
- 120 sets of (hats + gloves + scarves per set)
- 360 handwarmers
- 5 (pop-up) tents (for the unsheltered homeless who live outdoors)

It's great to support others on the same mission. We're thankful we were able to share your donations with those in need, so thank you as always for your support!

"WARMING ITEMS FOR DON": Today we received a message from Don. He was at an (addiction) recovery place but needed some warming items & shelter for tomorrow. While he was trying to get a place to stay with his father-in-law, in the interim he said he needed a tent & sleeping bag.

Well, (thanks to the good Lord) that's just exactly what we had in storage. Call that coincidence ;). So we met him today and shared those items plus some handwarmers as well.

While visiting w/ him, another fellow, Jesse came by, and reminded us we had donated similar items to him a year ago when he was in need. How cool to see him doing better. All this, thanks to your support.
