This morning, Medina Sunrise Rotary had the pleasure of hearing from Sara Judge, Linda Earhart, and Jen Blatnik of Girls on the Run Northeast Ohio, a program that helps girls recognize their inner strength, stay active, and confidently stand up for themselves and others.

👟 Girls on the Run (grades 3-5) teaches girls to manage emotions, resolve conflict, and make intentional decisions, and includes a community service project.

💙 Heart & Sole (grades 6-8) supports the whole girl: body, brain, heart, spirit, and social connection.

Both programs wrap up with a joyful, non-competitive 5K celebration! 🎉

The impact is incredible: since 2007, Girls on the Run has served more than 25,000 girls, with over 1,600 participating each year across six counties (Cuyahoga, Lake, Lorain, Medina, Portage, and Summit). Each season, more than 300 volunteer coaches make it all possible.

Thank you, Girls on the Run for speaking to our club this morning and for the important work you do to empower the next generation of girls!

Medina Sunrise Rotary had a spooktacular time volunteering at The Society's Boo Bash today! 👻🎃

From 11 to 3, our members helped park cars and handed out goodie bags lovingly assembled by Pride One Construction. Trick-or-treaters also got to pick candy from our giant nose, which was a big hit! 👃🏻

We had some special helpers, too! The Medina Girls Basketball team and Coach Karen Kase joined us to pass out treats and spread the Halloween spirit. Thank you, ladies, for lending a helping hand! 🍬

Last night, Medina Sunrise Rotary hosted our annual Grant Awards & Donor Recognition Event at Pride One Construction, and as always, it was an inspiring evening!

Thanks to the success of our signature fundraiser, W**e & Roses, we awarded $150,000 in community grants to 16 outstanding local organizations. These grants support programs that uplift, educate, and strengthen children and families across Medina County.

Congratulations to this year's grant recipients: County Forward Fund (Medina Co. Economic Development), Cups Collective, Empower Sports, Educational Service Center – Ink Spot / County Fair, Feeding Medina County, Highland Intercultural Program, Hope Recovery Community, Hope & Healing Survivor Resource Center, Integrated Community Solutions, Lodi Family Center, Medina County Sheriff's Office, Replay For Kids, Summer Reinforcement Program, The Children's Center of Medina County, and The Society.

We also continued our commitment to Akron Children's. Two years ago, our club awarded a $100,000 multi-year Impact Grant, and this month we will make our third of four $25,000 installments to the Akron Children's – Medina facility.

A heartfelt thank you to our W**e & Roses sponsors, whose contributions of $2,500 or more made all of this possible: Pride One Construction, Redwood Living, Inc., ABC Supply Co., Inc., Graves Lumber, 84 Lumber, AVID Architects, Berkadia Commercial Mortgage LLC, EAG Flex Units, Famous Supply, First National Bank of Pennsylvania, LLA Therapy, Millennium Controls, Pegs Foundation, Becky and Frank Shotwell, The Place, and Trillium Creek.

From all of us at Medina Sunrise Rotary, thank you to everyone who attended, donated, or supported us. Together, we're building a strong future for Medina County!

Great turnout at Medina Sunrise Rotary this morning! We inducted Jim Gerspacher back into the club and had three former members join as guests: Rich Pace, Mike Morris, and Dale Huefner.

Our guest speaker, Dr. Thomas Rogers, South Region VP & Chief Medical Officer at Cleveland Clinic Medina Hospital, shared his path from family medicine to a 30-year Army career and his passion for community-driven care. He updated us on hospital progress — expanded integrative medicine, Jones Center upgrades, more infusion capacity, stronger orthopedic and stroke care — plus the exciting news that Medina Hospital was just named one of the nation's top hospitals by Forbes.

Looking ahead, he's eyeing a new surgical wing, more operating rooms, better imaging, and more parking. Thank you Dr. Rodgers for your informative presentation!

This morning, Medina Sunrise Rotary joined the City of Medina to co-host a ceremony marking the 25th anniversary of September 11th, honoring the lives lost and the heroes who responded. The observance began at Medina Fire Station #1 and continued at the Medina 9/11 Memorial Park on Reagan Parkway.

American Legion Post #202 presented the colors as The Honorable William F. Hutson, Judge, served as Master of Ceremonies. Lexi Dacek, a 2025 Buckeye HS grad sang the National Anthem and America the Beautiful. Pastor Arthur Ruffin, Sr. of Second Baptist Church gave the invocation and benediction, and Mayor Jim Shields offered the official welcome. Captain Casey Keibler (United 737) and Fire Chief Larry Walters shared 9/11 remembrances, followed by 40 seconds of silence for those lost on Flight 93, then Lexi Dacek's rendition of "God Bless America."

The ceremony closed at the Memorial Site with a wreath placed by the United Airlines Pilots & Flight Attendants Association (Active & Retired), followed by a R***e Volley and Taps from American Legion Post #202 Honor Guard.

Thank you to all who joined us this morning to remember, reflect, and honor those we lost 25 years ago. We will never forget.

Six teams of Medina Sunrise Rotarians and family hit the links this past Monday for our Cart Tipper Classic — and the competition didn't disappoint.

Kevin Wermer and Karnel Fechko took closest-to-pin honors, sticking it close on holes #8 and #2. But the day belonged to Team Shotwell, who ran away with the trophy on a 4-under-par round no one else could touch. Their names will now go on the traveling trophy for 2026!

Nothing brings this club together like a little friendly competition — thanks to everyone who came out to play!
