ECHO HILL RANCH is a child centered, non-competitive
camp for boy and girls ages 6-16 founded in 1952 by Dr. Tom and Min Friedman, still owned by the Friedman Family, and now operated Kinky Friedman and Marcie Friedman. Echo Hill is an 'electronics free summer camp' and a designated Wildlife Management Preserve in the State of Texas. The camp is inspected annually and licensed as a Youth Summer C

amp by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. We are living in an age where childhood is becoming increasingly stressful and programmed for children and parents. Summers at Echo Hill provide an invaluable opportunity for boys and girls to relax, have fun, make friends, try new activities, and enjoy the unique freedom and safety of camp life in the beautiful Texas Hill Country. Echo Hill Ranch Gold Star Camp was founded by the Friedman family with support from like-minded people who wanted to honor our fallen by taking care of their children.

Echo Hill Ranch is sacred ground for the children and loved ones of those who fell in service to our beloved United States of America. We honor their ultimate sacrifice in pursuit of liberty, freedom and peace. We take them into our hearts with our own lost loved ones and cherish them.

We celebrate them today, Memorial Day, 2026.

We are incredibly excited to welcome Ali Bamberger to our Emanu El team! Ali will be leading membership and member engagement, and brings exceptional relational skills and a genuine passion for Jewish engagement and community building. Ali grew up at Emanu El and knows our community — an incredible asset as she steps into this role.

In addition to her work at Emanu El, Ali will continue to serve on the board of the Jewish Federation of Greater Houston, as co-chair of the Jewish Federation of North America National Young Leadership Cabinet, and as a committee member at the Houston Jewish Community Foundation. We shall meet again!
Save the date for our 2026 Reunion, July 3rd-5th
Come stay for the weekend, and celebrate the nation's 250th the Echo Hill Way.
Camp activities, family fun, and sharing golden memories are on the schedule. We will pause for remembrance of those lost in the catastrophic Hill Country flood in 2025.

Chuck and Jan met at camp and returned for decades.

Chuck died the summer of 2024.
