Founded in 1927, we are Medina, Ohio's oldest Boy Scout troop. We are uniquely fortunate to have access to the House Reserve, an 11 acre plot of land located off of Lake Road in Medina. Having access to this property allows us to hold our weekly Tuesday troop meetings outdoors in the summer months and lets us to offer several affordable, local campouts per year to our scouts. We also attend the summer camp program at Camp Manatoc every July.
We organize several optional fundraisers throughout the year so that our scouts have opportunities to earn money to pay for their scouting activities on their own. Our annual fundraising efforts include Malley's Chocolates, our spring mulch sale, popcorn sale, running the Medina Youth Gridiron concession stand, and our Christmas plant sale.
Giving back to our community is an important part of the Troop 501 experience. We are responsible for lighting the more than 1,500 luminaries each night of the annual Medina Candlelight Walk at Public Square in downtown Medina. We also take part in placing American flags on the graves of service men and women at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman and Spring Grove Cemetery in Medina each Memorial Day. We are a Gold Star Group in the Adopt-A-Highway program, tending to a portion of Pearl Road / Route 42 in Medina.
Over the course of our 90+ years of history, more than 143 of our scouts have attained the highest achievement in Boy Scouts, the rank of Eagle Scout. 50 of those scouts have earned this honor within the last 10 years.
