Medina BSA Troop 501

Medina BSA Troop 501 "On my honor, I will do my best..." Founded in 1927, we are Medina's oldest Boy Scout Troop. We hold weekly meetings and monthly campouts.

We are uniquely fortunate to have access to the House Reserve, an 11-acre plot of land located off of Lake Road in Medina. Having access to this property allows us to hold our weekly troop meetings outdoors in the summer months and lets us offer several affordable, local campouts per year to our scouts. We also attend the summer camp program at Camp Manatoc every year. We organize several optional

fundraisers throughout the year so that our scouts have opportunities to earn money to pay for their scouting activities on their own. Our annual fundraising efforts include Malley's Chocolates, our spring mulch sale, popcorn sale, and our poinsettia and wreath sale at Christmas. Giving back to our community is an important part of the Troop 501 experience. We are responsible for lighting the 1,500 luminaries each night of the annual Candlelight Walk Festival on the square in downtown Medina. We also take part in placing American flags on the graves of servicemen and women at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman and Spring Grove Cemetery in Medina each Memorial Day. Troop 501 takes part in the Adopt-A-Highway program as well, tending to a portion of Pearl Road / Route 42 in Medina. Troop 501 is a unit of the Great Trail Council of Akron, Ohio (Soaring Eagle District) and chartered through Medina United Methodist Church located on Foote Road.

ALL HANDS ON DECK! โšœ

Dear 501 families -

Our mulch fundraiser takes place this Saturday (May 10th) as well as the following week. The bulk of the mulch is delivered on the first week as we rent a box truck to manage the load.

WE NEED YOUR HELP!

This is our one and only fundraiser and we are asking for your full support to get the work done.

The benefits of the scouting program last a lifetime - we are asking for your help one time a year to give back! This fundraiser helps provide upkeep of our property as well as provide awards and advancements, support meetings and programs, and so much more. We simply cannot do it without you!

Our Story

Founded in 1927, we are Medina, Ohio's oldest Boy Scout troop. We are uniquely fortunate to have access to the House Reserve, an 11 acre plot of land located off of Lake Road in Medina. Having access to this property allows us to hold our weekly Tuesday troop meetings outdoors in the summer months and lets us to offer several affordable, local campouts per year to our scouts. We also attend the summer camp program at Camp Manatoc every July.

We organize several optional fundraisers throughout the year so that our scouts have opportunities to earn money to pay for their scouting activities on their own. Our annual fundraising efforts include Malley's Chocolates, our spring mulch sale, popcorn sale, running the Medina Youth Gridiron concession stand, and our Christmas plant sale.

Giving back to our community is an important part of the Troop 501 experience. We are responsible for lighting the more than 1,500 luminaries each night of the annual Medina Candlelight Walk at Public Square in downtown Medina. We also take part in placing American flags on the graves of service men and women at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman and Spring Grove Cemetery in Medina each Memorial Day. We are a Gold Star Group in the Adopt-A-Highway program, tending to a portion of Pearl Road / Route 42 in Medina.

Over the course of our 90+ years of history, more than 143 of our scouts have attained the highest achievement in Boy Scouts, the rank of Eagle Scout. 50 of those scouts have earned this honor within the last 10 years.
