🎬 It's finally here! After years of being available only on DVD, our documentary "Mounds, Dominoes, and Doodlebugs: The Early Days of Medicine Mound, Texas" is now FREE to watch on YouTube — no ads, no catch!
This 85-minute film features Medicine Mound's own pioneer descendants — the "Mounders" — sharing the stories, history, and heart of this special little corner of Rural America. From the railroad's arrival in 1908 to the tragic events that led to the town's decline, it's all here in their own words.
If you have roots in Medicine Mound or Hardeman County, grab a cup of coffee and settle in — we think you'll recognize some faces and hear some stories you didn't know.

Recent visitors to the museum include Joe Rogers and members of his family from Dallas. We really enjoyed the visit and the stories about “Brown Mule” and Mabelle Wall and their family cookouts. A wonderful afternoon!

And here it is! Our new front porch with a handicap accessible ramp. Many thanks to the Quanah Masonic Lodge, Big Valley Cemetery board member Mike Evans, and Eliar Avitia Concrete for making this vision a reality. We have a much more beautiful and safer entry and sidewalk now. And the boot scrapes are right back where they were, in case our visitors need them. Come see us!

Today, on the anniversary of D-Day, we pause to honor the brave men who stormed the beaches of Normandy on June 6, 1944. Their courage, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to freedom helped change the course of history and secured the liberties we enjoy today.

As Mayor of Quanah, Texas, I want to express my deepest gratitude to every D-Day veteran, especially those with ties to our community. These heroes faced unimaginable danger and answered their nation’s call without hesitation. Because of their sacrifice, generations of Americans have lived in freedom.

Quanah has a proud history of military service, and today we remember those who stood against tyranny and defended the values that make our nation great.

If you know a D-Day veteran from Quanah, Hardeman County, or your own family, please honor them by mentioning their name in the comments below. Let us ensure their legacy lives on and that future generations never forget the price that was paid for our freedom.

God bless our D-Day veterans, God bless Quanah, God bless the Great State of Texas, and God bless the United States of America.

— Mayor Glen Tole

Leonard Stermer, barber, in Bill Atkinson’s Barber Shop about 1928. The barber shop was located just south of the present-day museum, and it was in this shop that the fire started that burned the town in 1933.

Another one of our latest acquisitions is a Comanche profile from locally sourced rocks crafted by Janan Niska Chandler, and donated by the artist and her husband, Allen Chandler, Mounds’ descendant of the Jackson and Chandler families. Thank you, Janan, Allen, and family for your continued support.

Out of State folks Steve Ferguson and Dana Ferguson Hall visited the Museum today! They are children of Edwin Ferguson and grandchildren Sandy and Cecil Ferguson, early pioneers. An extra treat is we share family genealogy. They are also related to Gary Rogers and family and Ruth McLennan’s family. What a treat! Jeanene Stermer
