Join us Thursday, November 9 at 6pm for a free virtual program and book talk with Nicholas Bloom, author of "The Great American Transit Disaster." In the book, Bloom argues that car culture in the United States was not inevitable. New York City, with its extensive network of subways, buses, and trains, is a good example of what could have been for some other American cities. Instead, many of them became auto-centric, leaving as an outlier.

In this virtual program, Bloom will examine case studies of other cities, including Baltimore and Chicago, where disinvestment in mass transit was a choice upheld by voters, their representatives, and policies. By looking to the past, Bloom’s research offers insights that could lead to a more public transit-focused future.
